Hi I just bought BF:2142 Deluxe today and installed it and downloaded the patch from EA and redeemed my code for Northern Strike first time doing this type of thing and then I go and try to play the Singleplayer and when it had finished loading and put me into the game my screen goes green and the tutoral guide (I think) begins to lag and speak extremely slow and so here I am what should I do? This is the first BF I have played on the PC any help would be mean much to me.

BF2142 likes 1 gig to run tollerably, and 2 gigs to run smoothly.
Your memory is going to be an issue for you at some point, but I've never heard of the game displaying quite the symptoms that you have described even with only half a gig of memory installed. ![]() One of the mods here called VectorRoll has an exceptionally impressive knowledge of these things (actually I expect all the mods do, but a recent post from him springs to mind in particular). I expect someone will shine some light on the matter at some point.

The good news is that at least you can probably expand your memory for about 20 or 30 quid. It will be worth it even if your particular problem doesn't turn out to be memory-related. I hope someone posts with something more useful soon...

More ram would be good, but the 9200 isn't in the list of supported cards for bf2142, although I heard the agp version can run the game, all on low.
You could try the omega drivers. If you have the pci version you will probably need to upgrade, the 8500gt is the best pci card you can get. Note: PCI is not the same as PCI-E (PCI-Express). Post more info about your pc or motherboard, like make and model no. Last edited by Natt; 26-08-2008 at 04:16 PM.. |

Unfortunately, your 9200 probably won't support the game. The game's readme states that a 256mb video card with support for pixel shader 2.0 is required. I don't know if your card has 256mb of video memory, but it doesn't support pixel shader 2.0 (I'm guessing that it has less than 256mb of video memory as well).

Those specs are enough to run the game all on high. They aren't the best, but the best costs ££££ more.
As for the other stuff, get SATA, and decide how much you want to spend, 7200rpm hdd's are quite cheap, 10000rpm is not so cheap. DVD burners range from £15-£40, most online sites have a deal every day/week on drives eg overclockers and scan.co.uk. OS, I would go for vista premium for DX10, I prefer 64bit. |

I haven't had any problems with vista 64, but all my hardware is fairly new. If you have an old printer/scanner/digital camera etc you might have problems, but easy enough to see if drivers are available online before you buy.

The specs from your friend's machine will run BF2142 fine. The only caveat is that this assumes you choose to use WinXP. If you go with Vista, I'd install 4 GB of RAM; I'd consider installing even more RAM, if you are going to use Vista 64-bit.
DDR2 is fairly inexpensive, and you should be able to find plenty of motherboards that supports DDR2. The newest chipsets are using DDR3, but you'll pay a premium to adopt this memory at this time. I'd stick to a motherboard with an Intel chipset for an Intel CPU, unless you are certain that you want to run two or more nvidia cards in SLI. |
