Default EADM Question

I'm a digital download virgin, I've just bought BF2142 deluxe, downloaded and installed but what happens if I need to reinstall Windows in the next 6, 12 months or even longer, will the download still be there? if not what's the best way to backup my files and what do I need to backup?

Sorry for such a noob question I have been looking round the forums but can't find the answer.

You could save all the files on an external harddrive then just put them back on once you've reinstalled windows.

I could, but I don't know what changes it makes to the registry, I thought when I bought it I would just download an .exe that I could save, but it looks like I was wrong

See if you don't have a "C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EADM\cache" folder, and look in there to see if you find something that looks like it would be your BF2142 Deluxe download. I'd back that it up to a DVD and save it.

I have backed up the game folder, I don't know if it will work and I guess I won't do until I need it, I thought when buying the game I would download an .exe or .zip that I could save and install from that, I guess I was wrong, I don't think I will be using the digital download service again.

Did you look to see if you have the installation files in the cache folder I mentioned above? I found my Northern Strike download, there, and it is a 176 MB setup.exe file. My EuroForce and Armored Fury downloads are also present, though they consist of several files along with an installer.

I wouldn't think that backing up the installed game files will do you much good if you need to re-install the game in the future.

The exe should be in there, unless thay have changed the way it works.

I think that I will post this one more time even though it can be found by the search option. This will work for any game that you download off the EADM.

Make a copy of the installer you get form EADM. You go into the cached file location for the EADM and copy the installer application. Then you can put it into a safer and easier place to retrieve it. This is the file location that the EADM defaults to.: C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EADM\cache (Note that the default location is hidden and that you need to change the folder options just too see it.) You can change this location by going into the settings under the EADM and replace it with a different location. This link shows what I mean. http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...DMSettings.jpg When going into the cached folder you still will have to explore further in to get to the installer. It should be in a file that should be named like this { ########## } with a 10 digit number. I did not list the numbers because they might be different for you. Then go into the folder called bf2142_bp1 which should be the same. Now you should see the installer.
When making a copy of the file; you should copy the {##########} file. NEVER post these numbers in that file. Keep them to yourself.

Have you gone to your folder options and made absolutely sure that you've unhidden all file and folders types that might otherwise impede it from showing up?

I don't want to patronise you. I just want to give you something to do while you're waiting for someone who actually knows what they're talking about to get back to you.

Hmm...better idea than doing all the things above, go to EA towers take a laptop with Bf on it.

Make sure you leave a note to tell them how bad EADM is.

It will be alot easier!!

I think that you're looking under the Program Files folder; you need to look under the Program Data folder and drill down form there.
