Right I installed NS (Northern Strike) ages ago, tried joining a server and got messages about modified content. I tried to fix it but failed, so I kept off NS maps. Now I've managed to get four unlocks, meaning I could get 2 of each tree I wanted. I bought some sprint upgrades and such, and then the Baur, however, I tried to get the next skill above the Baur, I think it's the 'Rocket Addition' one. I clicked on it, and no little 'Choose this unlock' came up. I checked others as well, nothing.
So it's obvious NS isn't installed. But that doesn't make sense, I installed it long ago. If it isn't install, obviously that solves the problem of me not being able to join NS servers, however, I just installed it again, two times getting the 'Update Available' message after both, I think that's a thing reminding me of the 1.50 patch even though it is at 1.50. Anyways, I installed it twice, played the game, still not able to choose a NS unlock. What's up? Is it not installing? Is it installing somewhere else? I don't get a directory choice when I run the Setup so what's up? Seriously getting on my nerves now, and I can't fingure it out. |

Normally I would suggest just using the 1.50 patch only; but I too have run into this modified content error recently and the just using 1.50 only did not work this time around like it use too with the other older patches.
So instead I will suggest this method which worked for me. You will need to clean out all traces of it and start over. So try this. Uninstall the game. Then make sure that the BF2142 folders from both the MY Documents and C: drive are gone; if they are not then delete them. Now you might also want to go through the registry files using the Registry Editor and delete the traces of it in their as well. You can try it first without doing this but if it is still their then uninstall like above to start over; but go back and find any registry folder that has BF2142 and delete them as well and then restart and reinstall. During the reinstall use the old 1.40 patch. If you need re-download the old 1.40 patch; then you can get it here (Battlefield 2142 Download Files, Download Battlefield 2142 Patches - FileFront.com). So install the Core game, then 1.40, then NS, and then 1.40 again. Now use the 1.50 patch that you get from the main BF portal site (EA - ::Battlefield Franchise::). This is the process that I used; but I did remove all traces of the BF2142 in the registry files as well. Like I said earlier you can try it without it but if the problem is still their go back and remove them.

Also, make sure you do it at midnight, and have the following items in a silver bowl near the machine: Eye of newt, wing of bat, tongue of frog, tail of cat.
When you connect to a game server chant "Electronic Arts" backwards six times, and ensure that you are pure of heart and true in spirit. If that doesn't work, then like VecorRoll said, it's worth checking registry entries first.

Don't bother with any of that ^^
Go to Start and Run-type in regedit.Go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE scroll down to SOFTWARE and open it by clicking on the little + box, scroll down to Electronic Arts and click the little + box move to EA GAMES open that and select Battlefield 2142. In the right hand box you will see a list,10 for me,at the bottom-Version REG_S 1.50 hover the mouse pointer over Version and right click,a dialog box should pop up chuse modify and change that 1.50 to 1.10 click OK close regedit down and repatch BF2142 to 1.50 . Nope. Says modified content or something, and that I need an update (I think). Either way I can't at all, and I thought it was just the new patch until recently when I tried to access a NS unlock it became clear NS wasn't installed.

Yes is can be somewhat installed; but just not right. It is sort of like the files are corrupted. This is why you will need to uninstall and try again. When you uninstall and remove the files make sure that you first go to your EADM and see if the arrow is their saying asking if you want to install and that it is not grayed out.
I would also try what Splash-Damage has suggested before uninstalling. I believe that method worked for him unlike it did for me. When I tried that method it did not help me like it did him and others that tried it. So it is definitely worth a try. It may be better if it works for you because it saves you from having too uninstall and reinstall. If it does not work then try what I posted.

I've uninstalled and did stuff like that over 2-3 times now. Meh...I'll try it again...thanks.
EDIT: I'm trying Splashes suggestion but 'hover the mouse pointer over Version and right click,a dialog box should pop up chuse modify and change that 1.50 to 1.10 click OK close regedit down and repatch BF2142 to 1.50 .' I put it over the 'Battlefield 2142 Update 1.50', right clicked and I had no option to modify. I clicked on the REG_SZ, chose modify but then what? Last edited by Ap0stacy; 21-07-2008 at 06:14 PM. |

When you choose that file (Version REG_SZ) and hit modify; in the Value data box it needs to say 1.50.
Just change it to that and exit out. Then restart the computer and try the game.

So you are saying to make it 1.10 instead?
Maybe that is why it did not work for me causing me too start over from scratch with my method. Mine was already 1.10 when I ran into the problem. So I changed it to 1.50 instead. In fact that is what it says right now after I used my method and the NS works for me. Strange...![]()

S**t! Sorry but wow, Vector, you way worked man! I just got my NS unlock (I have yet to try out a NS map, fingers crossed)! I'm glad I took the patience to read over your first post again and try it out. You're a great help, as usual to all people who have problems like myself.
Thank you, thank you very much. Thank you to those who also gave their suggestions. |

No Problem; glad to see that it is working now. I hope the maps also work. Installation is a pain from time too time. It just takes a bit of patience and time to work through all the methods that people use and see which on will work for you.
