Default Update 1.40 with Highway Tampa Released

Following a comprehensive development and beta testing phase, the final version of Battlefield 2142 Update 1.40 is now ready for downloading and installing. This update includes the final version of Highway Tampa for Battlefield 2142, the new tank-fest map developed in co-operation with our partner Intel. You can grab the update from the following locations:

Multiplay
i3D
Hypernia
FileShack

We also have some fairly unique good news for people who already have the Final Beta Candidate installed - you don't have to do anything. The Final Beta Candidate public test was such a success that, following compatability testing, we're using the exact same version in this final release. The 1.40 Final Candidate Beta and 1.40 Final Update are fully compatible, you can consider them one and the same and use either on Battlefield 2142 1.4 servers.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the public betas and provided feedback, we truly appreciate your input and patience while work progressed on this update.

Here is a full list of the fixes and changes included in this update:

=================
XIII. UPDATE 1.40
=================

FEATURES

- Added a new map - Highway Tampa.
- Added an autosave to kit customisations. After you customise a kit and spawn in with that kit, the customisation will be automatically saved until you change it and spawn in again. Note that you must spawn in with a particular kit for it to be saved.
- Titans will now spawn up to two gunships per side
- Squad Leaders no longer have to resupply to re-equip destroyed drones

CHANGES

- Exploit Fix: hardcoded the time limits of Orbital and EMP strikes.
- RDX Shotgun now detonates RDX, Motion Mines, AP Mines with minimum of 2 rounds.
- Ported EU Assault Rifle changes to the Best Buy unlock as well.
- Fixed LMG Left/Right Recoil
- Revised EU Assault Rifle Recoil
- Increased Clark rate of fire to match Herzog
- Fixed PAC shotgun attachment recoil to match other Herzogs
- Further adjustment to Squad Leader drones to prevent them accidentally killing the Squad Leader when deployed
- Further fix to prevent "pod surfing". Note that some pod movement will still be possible and is an intended gameplay mechanic to allow the player to have some small choice of landing site and to access rooftops
- Smoke from the CM3-N Radar Grenade deploys more quickly. The Radar range has been slightly increased and endures for the duration of the smoke effect.
- The CM3-N Radar Grenade may now be resupplied.
- The screening effectiveness of all smoke grenades has been significantly improved.
- Adjusted Talon heat source position to improve Gunship missile balance.
- Beta Feedback: Fixed the placement of an AA gun on Highway Tampa
- Beta Feedback: Improved the visuals of the swimming pool on Highway Tampa

what the deuce... the file shack has finished downloading and when i try to run it, it claims i have the new version installed... i shall now try running 2142 to see if it was just an error on the messaging from the '1.25 patch'...

*edit - Nope, EA have failed again... when i open 2142 it still says there is a new version available even though i have downloaded their supposed 1.40 patches from the two sites they have recommended that actually work... only to get something i already have...

Please can anyone (doesn't have to be EA) find somewhere that the 1.40 patch CAN be properly downloaded from... and not just the 1.25 patch with 1.40 written on it like the stuff EA is giving us here...

Check this out. The map is in the files from the Hypernia download but when I log in it says that their is a new patch out and it gives me the EA Link (aka. EADM) message.

Something funny is about.

its ridiculous... all this beta testing for yet another disappointment... i will retract that opinion if EA pulls atleast one finger out of their **** to possibley sort something out without bothering the already over worked EASupport team... but tbh the EASupport team owns, cos they have to clean up SO much mess.

Ok i just started downloading this from http://battlefield2.filefront.com/

Are you all now telling me that despite everything, the final patch still is unavaliable? Or is this actually going to work. The filename is bf2142_update_140_final.exe . It looks good to me. Hopefully i have the proper 1.4

if this 'large downloads' one from vector doesn't work i'll try the filefront one, but i just wanted to play earlier... after all this i really can't be arsed.

** balls to the 'large downloads' one... it was going at 30kb/s so i'm not waiting 2 bloody hours...

Well none of what they release is working. It was said in the US Forums that they are looking into it to see what part of it is wrong; and that they apologize for the inconvenience. All the files released are all affected as of right now. A lot of people are all still looking to see if any of them are working. I personally have tried 6 locations now with too others being download right now. If I hear anything more from anywhere else I will let you all know.

Ok in the link below it says that the 1.40 Final beta version will work and that it is the same thing.
http://battlefield.ea.com/battlefield/bf/battlefieldnewsdetail.aspx?site_id=R3GK79NA-I9XN-YPOIIREX&storyid=18912
If you have that then you are good to go. I hope.

We're looking into this right now. As soon as there's any more info I'll get straight back to you guys.

So far I've not been able to replicate the install issue, my version reports 1.4 and connects to the new servers currently running. I realise that's not much help of course. Have you tried installing 1.4 onto a clean install of 2142? Which version were you previously running, one of the betas or 1.25?

I had 1.25 with NS on it. After install did not work.
Used may back up copy to revert back to just 1.25 then tried to install. No luck.
Tried to revert to the 1.40 beta final; since the main EA site said it would work. No luck.
I might try to install from scratch again after I try the next down; if it does not work.

Can you try downloading from FileShack.com? I know that version works, myself and a few others have successfully installed and played on 1.4 servers with it.

It looks like the file got corrupted during upload to largedownloads, anywhere mirroring that file will have the broken version. Please let me know if installing from the FileShack download works, the last three digits of the file size should be 406, whereas the corrupt version is around 200k short of that size.

Damn . That took hours. The exe does nothing whatsoever. Forget it. Not trying to get it again today. I might if i ever feel like playing Bf2142 again.

The Filefront mirror on that page. I don't seem to be the only one with trouble, judging by the comments at the bottom.

Just spent hours downloading at a speed of 56k. (Yes I do have broadband, it still took 2.5 hours.) I restarted the game only to find that I STILL get the new update available message, and there are no servers available to me as they're all running a newer version. My patch says version 1.40.exe. what's going on? I can't play on-line anymore. As of 13/11/07 my game no longer works. WHY????

Ah well thats the problem you see. They tried releasing it on the 13th. It was bound to go horribly wrong

This one works.
Note you must do a fresh install from the DVD...No 1.25 patch...Just 1.40 from this link.:
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/10686/Battlefield+2142+Retail+1.40+Patch

I am going to try to install the NS now to see if or how it will work. Hopefully it will not need to be re-patched afterwords.

My hopes were let down.
Note: Must still re-patch the NS with 1.40 patch.

But the game works now.

I'll be looking into this further with the rest of the team tomorrow. As far as we know all the download links should now have the correct version. In the mean time, I'd also suggest trying a clean install, then applying the 1.4 update to that. I'll let you know as soon as we find out more about these reported issues.
