BF2142 Tech Support - including Vista issues

everytime I try to look at a medal or badge my game crashes back to desktop, im using windows xp on my pc which does meet the game requirments, how do i fix this?

Make sure ur pnkbstA.exe and pnkbstB.exe are running when u start up the game. you can check whether they are working from the task manager.
If they are not there, or one is missing, punkbuster will complain that there is either no communication possible or u get kicked with the message: punkbuster...
anyway, if u encounter that those exe are not running, goto the services and change their start type to be automatic with the system (start-rum-services.msc --> find the pnkbstA/B service, double click and change the startup type to automatic)

If it still doesnt work, ur firewall is blocking the communication, either ur PFW or the Router Firewall.

Not sure how it works with the deluxe pack tho, but usually i recomment to install BF2142, patch it to 1.4 then install NS, patch with 1.4 and apply patch 1.5 after....sounds bad, but tbh, that is what i came across when having problems and it works all the time

HI,
I just bought the BF 2142 and the Northern Strike together, I installed the BF 2142 then the update 1.50. everything was fine i was able to play the game both online and single player.
I got in a bit of a problem when i tired to install the Northern Strike booster pack. when i run the setup it do its thing, show me its copying new levels and everything but just before finishing the installation it give me a massage which say "Update Available" the the install shield finishes off and say is the expansion pack was installed successfully. but when i run the BF again, it doesn't show me any new levels regarding the Northern strike pack, as if the game has not installed at all.
I reinstalled the new windows again thought it may the the issue but again same thing happened.
by the way i am using the EADM to download and install the game.

Would some one be kind enough and tell me what may be going wrong,

Unfortunately i was able to get my hand on proper 1.2 patch. I downloaded 2 1.4 Patch which turns out to be fake. however it dodnt work with 1.2 any ways. I uninstalled, re installed, patch to 1.2, then installed NS then 1.5 patch.
If you can point me to a proper server with 1.4 patch i would try it again.
It is getting really frustrating.

I used to play this game back in 2007 but the disk cracked. This year I bought a second hand version of the disk on amazon. Tried to load it on and it would not accept the serial number as it says it was registered to another account. So I used my old email adddress and persona and it let me in and I just created a new soldier. But now i cant do the multiplayer because it says I am using an old version and need a ea link. So went back on and created a new account using a new email address and linked the two accounts. But now it is saying I cant use the multiplayer version of the game because the serial number is related to an old account (presumably the previous owner of this disk). So How do i use the multiplayer game?

Does anyone experience the following annoyance sometimes?

You login, choose your soldier and the menu appears but freezes for a minute or two, sorta of half appearing and then stops, music still playing, then continues to appear. Then you can finally click stuff.
Sometimes the game just freezes when connecting or when you refresh the server list.

I hope the coming patch fixes these irritating issues.

Hi iam having trouble with bf2142 everytime i joined a server i get lag as soon as i have joined and start playing ussualy for about 5 seconds
tryed lowering graphic settings to lowest still same only thing that fixed it was to delete the pb folder in the bf2142 programs folder so iam thinking its a issue with punkbusta other games work fine that dont use punkbusta

Punkbuster is meant to auto update, so that can cause lag as well as the other punkbuster checks. Use pbsetup to manually update punkbuster.

I got Battlefield 2142about a year ago and its never worked online after about 5 seconds of playing i get kicked and an error messege "your connection has been lost from the server" anyone else got this problem? i cant seem to fix it and its really annoying paying £20 and not being able to play it and then going to EA support and it not working

hey everyone

ok so my problem is this. recently i brought 2142. i installed the game and decided to test out and not a problem. then i realised that i should get the patches so i could play online. so first i decided to install patch 1.25 but i think i might have clicked the button to many times so i pressed run for a second patch while the first was running. this caused a problem cause i got an error message saying did not update. so i decided to uninstall 2142 and re install it. after i did my friend said he just dled the full 1.50 patch. so i decided to do that. once i dled it, i tried install it. however when it finished unzipping the sound file, my computer froze. my pointer, everything froze. so i restarted my computer, uninstalled 2142 again, installed it again, dled a different patch just to make sure, this time getting the exact link my friend gave me for his to work (however he is using windows 7 64 bit). right now im using vista 32bit. carrying on, i finish dling the patch and the same problem happens! could anyone enlighten me on whats going on and how i can fix it! another problem was i would go into the lobby and my game would crash as well as having the game crash as soon as i logged in. however the later problem doesnt happen anymore but im not sure about the lobby.

any help would be deeply appreciated!!!!!

edit: oh and updated punk buster for 2142 and that worked fine

ok guys, i managed to get my patch up to 1.50 after deleting profiles and stuff in my documents and removing any left overs and cleaning my registry with cc cleaner. but heres the real problem. everytime i go into multiplay, 2142 crashes to desktop. i dont even get to see a server show up. now i know it only happens when its serching for servers because i managed to click one of the tabs at the top of multiplay before it could search for servers and it didnt crash. but everytime it updates, it crashes.

my specs are:
OS:vista 32 bit (4.00 gb ram)
GFX card: ATI Radeon HD 3650
Processor: intel core 2 duo 2.10ghz

i also switched of UAC when installing the patch and the game (im not sure if this helps with anything). ive tried turning it on then playing the game and no sucess. i have also run in compatability mode but the game wont even run on xp service pack 2

ive also tried another thing with my friend where i tried joining the server he was in by buddy list but the server wouldnt load up and another time it crashed to desktop.

ive also tried this with my fire wall off and no luck

i hope someone can help thanks!. (one last thing, i tried going to affinty in task manager and unchecking cpu 0 and keeping cpu 1 checked but that didnt help either)


Edit: i reinstalled my game again and it worked 100% fine. i think the issue is something with the patcher, can anyone give me any help on it. i remember patching and the patcher would just close

Well there are some patches that can or are messed up. It all depends on where you get them from. I would also not use the Incremental. Instead use the Full patches only.

Here are some tips that I use to install the game. In fact I just recently reinstalled the game on my Laptop after I messed up some system files while fooling around with it.

First I make sure to turn off the UAC. It is a personal preference. It just annoys me. It omits the need for runniung as admin as well.

I install each item separately. What I mean is that after I install something I restart the computer. So I install the core game then reboot, then patch it, and reboot again, and so on until I have everything installed. What this does is helps makes sure that the install process is finalized and a piece of mind. There have been instances where the install process may still be running in the background and mess things up when starting the next step. This is not always true but has happened to me before. That is why I do this, just to be sure.

Now speaking of the order in which I install, I do this. (Core game, patch 1.40, NS expansion (if you have this), patch 1.40 again (if you installed NS), then patch 1.50 to finilalalala off.
Note: If you do not have NS then just patch the game with 1.40 and 1.50 right afterward. Make sure to reboot between each step.

You obviously know that PB needs to be updated manually after the install and many times throughout the year.

The 1.50 was posted on this site. (EA - ::Battlefield Franchise::) Which uses the Largedownloads site the EA host many of there patches for some games, which is where I got the 1.40 patch as well.


Note: I also have never used any of the compatability modes to run the game. It works fine on Vista and also Windows 7. It should not be needed at all.

I've got a problem with 2142 (as well as BF2) in 7 64-bit. The games both install fine, but neither are detecting the CD in the drive. (My DVD drive is labeled as A:, not the normal D:, so this may be the problem. Seeing as another primary hard drive is labeled as D:, is there any way I can fix this problem if it is this issue?)

I installed both with the drive on A:, so I don't see that being the problem. Though neither game detects the "install" CD, so what can I do to fix it? (I'm on Home Premium and a system that has been fine running it in the past, so it must be a problem in either 7 or my drive letter assignments.)

The A drive is usually reserved for the 3.5 floppy drives. Not sure why or how you got yours to be listed that way. It could be the reason. The game might have coding in it to use a certain drive letter assignment to look for the CD/DVD when playing the game. But I am not certain. The installation would not have such a thing as you are starting it from whichever location your installer is at.

You could try a complete reinstall of the OS to see how it sets it up for a second time. Maybe look at the BIOS and see what it has listed for the drives.

As for BF2. It no longer needs the CD/DVD to play the game. As long as you have the latest patch. Soon BF2142 will be the same way.

Is this the retail version of Windows 7 or a release candidate version?
