Oh I am also not sure if you get the extended download service as well. You may need to omit that from the cart. Try it with it in the cart first. If it does not work try it with out it.

If it does not come with it the you will need to make a copy of the NS installer.
Make a copy of the installer you get form EADM. You go into the cached file location for the EADM and copy the installer application. Then you can put it into a safer and easier place to retrieve it. This is the file location that the EADM defaults to.: C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EADM\cache You can change this by going into the settings under the EADM and replace it with a different location. This link shows what I mean. http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/614/eadmyw4.jpg When going into the cached folder you still will have to explore further in to get to the installer. It should be in a file that should be named like this { ########## } with a 10 digit number. I did not list the numbers because they might be different for you. Then go into the the bf2142_bp1 which should be the same. Now you should see the installer.
When making a copy of the file; you should copy the {##########} file.

i didnt need to do all this i already have the product and the DM, however i did have to reinstall everything including the game in order to get it to work again, bit of a pain bit it works now thanks

All I have to say is this. Next time EA release a booster pack, they'd better get their act together and make it easy to buy + play.

Now, when I bought NS (twice, but thats a long story), I had no problems whatsoever with getting it working/installed/registered. Probably because i've been following the BF games since 1942, and so had read all about it before i bought it (about a week after it had been released).

However, I must have read hundreds of posts made by people who just cant get it to work. They need to do something about it.

The fact that there's even a sticky about getting it to work just goes to show how rubbish their system is.

yeh well EA have sold the product they dont show any interest after that except how big their wallets are getting from it, do you think they ever read these posts NO they never do anything to fix the bugs they put in the games. same alalalalalabuster every time it updates i have to go through the proccess of deleting the old file downloading the new installer reinstalling it not once but twice or even three times before it works again, every day i go on the bf1242 i worry that is it going to punkbust me again will i have to spend hours sorting it out again it gets annoying to say the least, and if you do manage to get hold of EA theyre in deniel and try telling you its your system thats at fault

Well I have not been punkbusted for quite some time now. Knock on wood. LOL
Plus they are still working on the game. You obviously have not read the 1.50 message. It has just been some time now because of all the cheaters that they had to deal with.
I believe that they are also working on BF2. At least they are watching for the cheaters their and reseting them as well. Just go to the portal and you can read up on it. Its not many messages but it shows that they are alive.

In order to register Northern Strike, visit EA LINK and enter
Northern Strike code [XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX] and then click on submit.

- You will be asked to login using your EA account ("YOUR EMAIL HERE") and
password.
- On the next page you will need to link your existing BF 2142 account
"YOUR BF 2142 ACCOUNT" with your Ea.com email account. Please click on the “Link”
tab and login using your BF 2142 account name "YOUR BF 2142 ACCOUNT" and associated
password.

- Once you have logged in properly, you account will be registered for BF
2142 NS and you should then be able to play the game online.

Mentioning it again is a good Idea. It is mentioned at the very beginning of this thread in post #5; but not with that much detail. It is good to have an exact explanation on how to get it done.

Now, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I have Northern Strike installed on my machine, and it is tied to my account. However, I am unable to play on servers that run NS because it tells me that I need an "unmodified version of the game" in order to play. Also, I just got my latest rank upgrade, and was not able to choose a NS unlock.


So that is the problem, but to make it more interesting, I can run NS on a local server so I can play around on the maps by myself.

Thoughts?

NS gets tied to your Account upon purchase.
Did you buy just the NS from the EA Store or is it part of the Deluxe copy?

Also what steps did you take when installing.
You should install the game them the latest patch; 1.50; then the NS and repatch the game with the latest patch.

All you may need to do is repatch the game to get it to work.

I did repatch, but I'm gonna try the punkbuster update

Ok, so heres what I did.

I installed NS, then repatched to v1.5, and I just ran the punkbuster update (i think i did it correctly) and I am still getting the "This server only allows players with unmodified content to join. Please revert to the original BF2142" or whatever.

When you installed and update the game; did you remember to manually delete the older BF2142 folders that may have remnants of some older patches still in them?

It might be best to start over. Uninstall the game. then manually delete just the BF2142 folders from both the My Documents and C: drive. Then restart the computer and reinstall. Make sure to just use the 1.50 patch.

What I did was go into regedit and set the version back to 1.10, then I reinstalled 1.50 and it seems to work. I just hope the next time i get a rank upgrade I can choose NS items.

what is regedit is it a website

go to 'Run' under your start menu.

type regedit

go to HKEY Local Machine>Software>Electronic Arts>EA Games>Battlefield 2142

Right click 'Modify' and change the version to 1.10. Now, repatch the game and it will work.

Ok, I still cant access Northern Strike weapons. I have the long range Eng rifle, and the Ganz, but the 5th set of unlocks arent available.

Any ideas? I can still play on the maps though, I just got the Arctic Combat Badge, or w/e.

u need to unlock all of the bf2142 in the unlock tree before u can unlock the ns things...
so to say, if u havent unlocked the left tree of the support u wont be able to get the ns unlock ;-)

What a piece of junk, I have tried now for 2 hours to dig up some info and all come down to: patch to latest patch, install NS and patch the game again. Done it twice now (wich includes reinstalling the game completely) and I still get the same error: Revert your client to the latest version, wich is the one I installed two times already!!

Use 1.40 before and after the NS; then at the end use the 1.50 patch.

i deleted all my folders and registry keys and then reinstalled and then patched 1.5 installed ns and then patched 1.5 again and still get the unmodified lalalala message

even when i changed the version back to 1.1 and started from there by installing the 1.4 patch its still lalalala out

Hello All I have the 2142 Deluxe Edition that includes NS on the instal, but when I try to activate it the browser and the program are pointed to "http://www.battlefield.com/activate/bf2142/index.html" Instead of take me there takes me to the BF series portal "http://battlefield.ea.com/battlefield/bf/"
So I cannot activate it, it's been a full day with this behavior, does anybody knows what can I do besides wait?
I've already registred my game at EA, I will open a case on they support.
