Default Northern Strike Installation - Weird one!!

Hi All

First post here (not a n00b to 2142, been playing a while now!)...

I finally decided to purchase Northern Strike today, and did so via EA Link/Downloader. Signed up for my account, paid for NS, got the download link and keycode, installed EA Downloader, downloaded NS, EA Downloader decrypted and installed NS, installer runs and after a few seconds, a window saying "UPDATE AVAILABLE" pops up, click this and the NS installation finishes. NS status shows "installed" in EA Downloader.

Ok... So now I run BF and try to join a server running an NS map. It still comes up saying that I need to install NS to play on this map! lalala?

I've tried reapplying the 1.25 patch and this hasn't worked, I've restarted the machine just in case, no luck there... Punkbuster is all up to date and I've re-downloaded the NS patch, but it just goes straight to status "installed" in EA Downloader.

Can anyone help please? It would appear I'm not even getting as far as the "modified content" error that most people seem to get!

PS - I'm running Vista Ultimate. I read somewhere that NS doesn't work with Vista, surely this can't be true?!

Thanks in advance,

Dave

I got the "modified content" message when I installed NS, I applied the 1.25 patch and everything was fine after that.

Did you install 2142 in the default folder on your C drive?
If not then NS has installed into a different folder and isn't recognised when you start it.

I'm also running Vista Ultimate, on a dual core Athlon X2 64. I've read about loads of people running Vista with no problems. So I don't see that as your problem.
Hope you get it sorted ok.

Game running with Administrator privileges? It has to, and in Vista by default I don't think it is set to do that.

Just to be on the safe side, the install order (though I'm sure you already followed it, can't hurt to put it down in list form again):

- install game
- install 1.25 patch
- install NS
- install 1.25 patch again!

Then probably also hit www.evenbalance.com and get their updater and run it.

I have exactly the same problem, bought NS from EA store today, downloaded and installed it, re-applied the 1.25 batch and nothing, the game says I don't have the NS installed, even though the files are there and they were even patched by the 1.25 update.

I tried re-installing the game, installing 1.20 update, installing Northern Strike and then installing the 1.25 update, but no help there.

After quickly checking out the BF forums on EA.com, theres at least one post there describing this exact same problem.

Hello,

It seems allot of people are having the same issue. Myself included, here is my post; http://forums.ea.com/mboards/thread....4640&tstart=15

There are two distinct problems from looking at the forums. Both are getting mixed up with each other.

1) The "modified content" message which appears to be fixed by re-installing everything.

2) The UNFIXABLE (so far) problem, "Patch available" message after installing northern strike. Load game, launch a northern strike map and bloomin’ heck, "You need the booster pack installed to play these maps".

We want number 2 fixed and we DONT experience problem number 1.

I have logged a support ticket with EA and I would suggest everybody experiencing a number 2 (pardon the pun) should also log a support ticket - after all you have paid for maps you can’t play!

Have to get home to test this today, but seems to make sense!

Fought this issue for a couple days now. Here is the fix.

after you install you must go to www.ea. com/ealink . It will tell you to go to EA Store but wait...down at the bottom is a white box and next to it in almost invisible words (white letters) it says To redeem an EA Link code, enter it here: Hee is where you will enter the digital code that was emailed to you when you purchased Northern Strike. After you enter the code it takes you to the next page. Enter the code again. Now it will need you to link your game persona to t your ea account but you can now play with the expansion. Kind of complicated toa $10 downlaod.
