Punk Buster Issues - Page 3

tried to narrow down if it could be anything else, other that punkbuster.

-tried disabling desktop composition for bf2142 from the compatibility tab
-changed forceware drivers, tried 158.24, 160.03, 160.04, 158.45
-turned off EAX in bf2142
-switched to software sound in bf2142
-reinstalled the game & ns

might try the game without ns now.

curse 1.25 & pb!!!

narrowed it down even more, looks like the culprit is the PnkBstr services, shame you can't disable them, as when you join a game, you get the f***king loosing key packets and are booted back to the server list screen.
Why on earth did they have to create the stupid services junk? it's just another useless memory eating service that serves no purpose but to cause problems. As if windows hasn't already got enough services! pb should just run from the pb game folder like it always has! get rid of the extra lalalala.

Mine does it as well, you're not alone.

I reinstalled 2142 today, and i kept getting kicked by punkbster with no warning.

However i followed the uninstall-reinstall instructions and its working fine now

.

No, sorry, i mean i dont get kicked anymore. But it still does the thing where it makes my hard drive go nuts for a few minutes and it lags out like crazy. Then it eventually stops and i can play fine.

btw i found theres a punkbuster folder here (vista) C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\BF2142\ pb

this has to for the pb service junk, so i deleted it all, and also went to the pb folder for bf2142 & bf2 and deleted all files as well. ran pbsetup and reinstalled pb. didn't run the pbsvc as it just installs itself from online (sneaky bug*er)

played 2 rounds on bf2142 with no random lag, tried bf2 but still had random lag. damit! i won't keep my hopes up, next time i play 2142 it'll probably lag again, EA/DICE where ever you are pleassssssee patch the game.....................again.

Hi guys,

I fixed my crashing with looping sound problem/to desktop after playing for 10 minutes and thought i would share my findings in case you have the same issue.

I have the HIS X1950XT graphics card which is bundled with software called HIS iTurbo, without this software installed or while idle/desktop the card runs its core at 621 mhz and the fan at 27% for quiet times

when you hit the turbo button it kicks the core to 650mhz and the fan to 100%. You can use this when playing games to give you that extra fps you want.

With the new punkbuster i have to exit this app and cant run my card full speed, i think it believes it is some kind of modification and tries to access parts of memory that it shouldent which crashes the game.

So.. if you are running any software such as RivaTuner, ATI Tool or any kind of fan/heat monitoring graphics card program, try closing it and see if you still get the same crashes.

As for the Loosing Key Packets issue, i get this also but only when i change servers it does it after 5 minutes of being on another server. If i want to switch servers i need to close battlefield 2142 and load it again choosing a new server.

i havent put the patch onto BF2 because it takes about 2 hours for me to download it on a 1mb connection but i patched BF2142 and i get this. Before i patched BF2142 i didnt even get a list of servers.

Ok, i hate to whine, but WHEN ilalalalalabuster going to be fixed?

I just cannot play any big maps anymore, and especially not on Titan mode. It used to run fine, now its unplayable.

Basically, the only maps i can play after that punkbuster update are Camp Gibraltar and Cerbere Landing. All the others are so choppy i cant aim, can hardly move etc etc.

i know, it's disgusting that it has gone unfixed for so long.

i raised some support tickets on the evenbalance site, but all the support guy said was update punk buster, yea thanks for nothing

Now everytime the lalalalaing lag starts i just quit the game and do something else, it's not playable anymore.

pbsetup keeps saying bf2 needs updating, upon updating there is no actual update, if i run the check again it says bf2 needs updating...i could do this over and over, is this a bug?

still getting random lag/stutter, which is ruining gameplay, it's not sound drivers, gfx drivers, vista etc.

I am getting pretty fed up with punkbuster, every single time i connect to a server i can play for like 5 seconds then i get this RESTRICTION: Losing Key Packets (B)ffff0001, then i get a blank punkbuster message box with the OK button, then i try uninstalling and reinstalling the game THREE times. Then i notice that every time i install the game i have pnkbstrB in the pb folder but no pnkbstrA can someone help me please

I continue to have problems with PB despite doing everything reccommended by both EA and the PB folks. It is very frustrating. I have gone through the manual deletes and reloads too many times to count. The game will come up and seem to function fine. Then I get Punk'd!
Sometimes the game plays fine for multiple rounds/days. Today I went through all the reccommended fixes twice. The first fixed allowed me to play for about 10 min the second fix for 15 min. Then Punk'd again.
It would be helpful if I had a sense that they had a sense of what the problem is. They should shut down PB or roll back the game until the problem is resolved. Any other fixes out there besides what PB and EA are offering?

Punkbuster B is only used when you enter a server.If you disable either of them you will be kicked for losing key packets.

I have however noticed that the load goes down if you run this

1. Go to start than run
2, in run type services.msc
3. Scroll down and look for PnkBstr A and B
4. make sure they say started, if not right click it and allow it to start.You may also click on properties and tell it to run automatically.

Make sure you have your pb up to date.

My first post but i hope this helps.

I was getting pretty frustrated about being kicked from punkbuster due to loss of packets. It was just by chance that i noticed that my firewall (McAfee) had been blocking PB for some reason since the 1.25 patch.

I opened up the events page of my firewall and manually set it to stop blocking PB, after this i havent been kicked from them since.

Hope this helps some of you.

are the servers or punkbuster being gay again? i've had the game freeze 3 times while playing today, once of the loading map screen and twice in game, only way to exit is to CTL+ALT+DEL....sucks i noticed pb updated today, maybe thats why? anyone getting freezing atm?

Yeah this has just started happening today for no apparent reason.

Freezes either while map loading or after its loaded.

Nothing has changed my end. No doubt another pukbuster problem which is causing this. getting sick and tired of it now!!!

Having to manual update etc every 3 days or so. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't

Today nothing works!!!!!!

For a while nearly every time I played Battlefield 2142 I got kicked by Punkbuster after about a minute on the server without any message (just a message box title 'PUNKBUSTER') - this is slightly annoying as it makes it difficult to diagnose the problem. Reinstalling it manually appears to fix the problem although it is a slightly complex procedure. This suggest there is a problem with the updater since it doesn't always install the Punkbuster update successfully (if it tries at all, which, IMO, it should). I think the updater should be rewritten as it is currently in a very bad state.
