Do server admins also have to replace that file? I bet majority of admins aren't aware of this and I'd hate to be kicked by PB because of checksum fail with that file...

I'd say next time you run in to it the new patch probably will be available thus you can reinstall BF2 with that latest patch (most likely 2GB download again) and you dont have to worry about the fix.

Bazajaytee has the final word on this, but my take on it is that you don't have to get it, but it would be a good idea. The thing is there was a resource leak in there, albeit a small one, and it's better to have the code that corrects it than stay with the old one.

And some additional testing by people who weren't affected won't hurt at all either .

This is a very reasonable question, I don't see why anybody would flame you over this.

I'd say get it anyway so you have the same version as others but no you don't need it if you don't have problems.

As for the server question, no servers don't need this file as it isn't used/installed on dedicated servers. This is purely for rendering the client screen.

Oh, and, by the way, I know there were lots of people who were getting the windows error sound (or even error popup) upon closing BF2; does anyone still get it?

I would expect it to be gone as well after this patch, at least on the majority of the machines.

(I have no idea if I had the issue or not, or if I still have it or not, as I have all windows sounds turned off )

I still get it, no change on that.

It certainly will be when you replace the error sound for something new!

I'll pretend I didn't read that .

Seriously now, I suppose that means there's yet another engine shutdown issue that hasn't manifested itself in its visible form up to now. Let's hope it never does.

Weird thing is that I have never seen it create a Windows error incident like most programs do when they crash.
Can't be that serious if Windows is ignoring that it just happened... Can it?

I do have quite a few minidumps in my BF2 dmp directory, but I could never be bothered to look into them seriously in a debugger.

The Windows error reporting thingy is yet another 'feature' that's turned off on my machine...

It might be my X-fi being an..idiot. I've had one BSOD when quitting BF2 and that was caused by ctoss2k.sys, which is a Creative thingy. So I woudn't spend another minute on it. And I can change the sound to something way cooler than *DUNG!!* if it starts bothering Nothing on event viewer and nothing on dmp folder either.

Can someone answer this question?:

Does this fix allow for widescreen support? The other "unofficial" Rendx9 fix didn't.

Maybe you need a manual pb update? Perhaps forcing the latest changes to pb to include the file?

Try updating PB again, just in case.
I havent had to do anything on my machine but Evenbalance will be looking at the file probably tomorrow now due to it being Labour Day over in America.

If you have problems with PB still after PB update then use the older files until Evenbalance has taken a look at the file just to be sure.
