Default BF2 1.5 Crash To Desktop, cleared cache & fresh install, still not working?

Hey,

I have been having problems with the patch. I installed it fine and can create local games and run around on my own. As soon as I join a game online it loads and then the screen goes black and it crashes to desktop right where you choose your kit. It has done it every time without fail, I deleted the cache which didn't work so I did a completely fresh install. I then updated my videocard drivers to the latest version and also updated punkbuster but it still does it.

I installed in this order:

Battlefield 2
Special Forces
Update 1.41
Update 1.50

This is my setup:

Windows 7 Build 7100.
Punkbuster Client Version 2.194 | A1392
Nvidia Drivers 190.62

Gigabyte x58 UD3R
3 x 2GB Patriot Viper DDR3 PC3-12800
i7 920 D0 (stock settings)
Corsair 520HX PSU
7800GT

Right-click your BF2 shortcut, hit Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and check Disable desktop composition.

Hey,

I seem to be having the same problem, one of the differences though is that I am running XP. Like Brodel, I cleaned cache, updated video drivers, updated PB and tried a fresh install. Nothing seems to work though.

I installed in this order:

Battlefield 2
Update 1.41
Update 1.50

This is my setup:

Windows XP Home Edition SP3
Punkbuster Client Version 2.194 | A1392
Nvidia Drivers 190.62

MSI MS-7012 (Medion OEM)
Intel Pentium 4, 3200 MHz (16 x 200)
1536 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
7600GT

I fixed it...

I tried to fix it by manually removing BF2 first, which didn't work in the end.
Then somone gave me a tip to turn of the compatibility mode and that seemed to do the trick!

Try creating a new user profile and see if it works. There is a known server side issue with profiles generated before 1.5. If the new profile owrks, just copy/paste it into the pre-existing profile folder.
