Go to HKLM\Software\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc in regedit. Double click on the key value and enter your cdkey there.

In the installation folder of BF2 (and SF respectively) there is a sub-folder called "support", or something like that, which contains a small tool that let's you re-enter your CD-key (including encoding to a hash).

Warning:
If you start this tool, you'll automatically overwrite the registry value, no matter if you enter a (new) key or not!

Hi,
Mousearrow freezes in Spawnselect window. Arrow just stays in centre of screen. Can use it in all menus before, options, graphic etc. . It's a Logitech mx-518, newest drivers installed. Using Win7 32 bit.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

no solution to the installshield crash? I hate installshield, it used to fail installing other games and patches.

Sounds like InstallShield itself is corrupt on your machine. I'd check out InstallShield support for a solution - InstallShield - MSI Windows Installer and InstallScript MSI Installation Tool - Acresso

Its not there once I've uninstalled BF2.

I've tried entering my key into that battlefield_code.exe several times but no luck. At what point in the installation do I need to do this? Before patching or after?

Before I uninstalled, I tried running the game as Administrator, this time it just CTD just as I connect to a server (before the loading screen appears).

couldn't find anything useful on the installshield website and it wouldn't install in safe mode, I re-installed windows and that didn't fix it. Is there someway to re-install the installshield runtime?

it's not corrupt as I tried loading the 1.4 patch to see if that worked, it crashed with that too, it loads on my laptop but on my desktop it just crashes with some stupid dll file...ahhhhh really hate computers sometimes.

and the event viewer is no help....useless feature of windows imo.

Okay, fixed my problems.

CTD was caused by a conflict with my audio. I have both onboard sound, and my Audigy 2 enabled (Can't be bothered to explain, but I do). If I disable the microphone for one or the other, it fixes the CTD.

Fixed the cd-key issue by running as administrator.

Sorted

Only issue now is that even if I enable AA, it doesn't work! I enable it, restart the game, go back in, and it is set to 'Off' again. Strange... Definitely not being overridded by CCC or anything like that.

Default Corrupted Textures

There seems to be an issue with textures in BF2 together with ATI and Windows 7.

I updated in Vista, and everything played fine there, then upgraded to windows 7. Had to reinstall the PBSVC since it didnt make the upgrade. Playing in windows 7 i get a water texture over all the ground. It's not that the ground isnt there, since you can see it below, its just that above it, there is "water".

Se the following screenshots for the water effect.
http://www.damocles.nu/pub/files/bf2.../screen003.jpg
http://www.damocles.nu/pub/files/bf2.../screen007.jpg

But when an explosion hits, everything reverts back to normal for just an instant while the explosion after effects is still there. See screen 7 compared to 9.
http://www.damocles.nu/pub/files/bf2.../screen009.jpg

I've tried to clear the cache, i've tried to run as admin. No luck at all.

Windows 7
ATI 4870 - Running Catalyst 9.8
BF 2 1.50 - worked perfectly fine in Vista x64, so the patch doesnt seem to be the problem.

Except for the water texture, it works just fine.

Vista 64
I had the Similiar Problem,
the patch Stop Responding,
right as I started it,
it showed an Error code,
but I didnt save it
I tried multiple different sources of 1.50 patches
no go,
I reinstalled 1.41,
just to see if it would run,
it did,

Then, found a good 1.50
RC File,
Set the 1.50 patch Compatibly Mode to Xp,

RC, Run 1.50 as Admin, it ran

Thanks for all, Bazajaytee&Co

Am getting a ctd with every server I try & join, I connect then I'd say at the moment the spawn/kit selection window is about to appear the screen goes blank & I'm back at the desktop & the pc appears to be locked up, mouse & keyboard don't work, pressing ctrl-alt-del cures that & then upon checking in task manager I can see the bf2.exe has shut down.

This only happens in multiplayer by the way, single player is working fine! Have done all the usual, re-install bf2, apply 1.41 then 1.50, deleted battlefield folder from my documents if it's there, re-installed pb many times, updated pb prior to starting bf2 but still it crashes every single time.

Am running windows 7 RTM build 64 bit with all the latest drivers for my hardware, anyone else experiencing this problem, or even better, anyone got a solution?

The invisible terrain thing happens on my machine when I ALT-TAB during maploading or when the BF2 window is not visible (if windowed) during loading.

Preventing ALT-TAB during loading solved the problem for me,...
