Hey guys, remember me?
Just a quick update. We have what we believe is the final version of Battlefield 2 v1.50. We have a little bit of office politics to sort out regarding the update but once thats cleared up we'll be good to release it.
Unfortunately I can't tell you what the office politcis decision is about but it is worth the slight extra delay. There won't be another public Beta of this version, instead we will do a closed Beta to get a faster turn around and is basically to make sure things are still OK like the connection to servers issue.

You will need to have Battlefield 2 installed to version 1.41. We won't support installing over a previous 1.50 Beta version (it might work without issue but it might not so to be safe install over 1.41) so feel free to uninstall/delete that version.

Thanks for the update, please don't ignore well known beta 3 bugs in your closed beta. DELAY is a very bad word btw right now.

Thanks for letting us know whats happening. Also I do remember you - you are the guy who keeps getting his posterior kicked for supporting a game years after release, in your own time and without losing the rag!

About those politicians , can you suggest them to free AF and EF : not sure they sell to many of those pack currently, and this will help to wait for BF3.

I can't give away what the "politicians" are discussing but we know its something you guys will appreciate and that the Battlefield team has been pushing for, for a few months now.

Sorry not everything was fixed that you might have wanted to see implemented. The update contains a lot of requested features as well as some big security fixes. So while you might have some issues you don't feel have been dealt with I think we can say that Battlefield 2 is far from dying.

The fact is, it is not dead and we are waiting for a new patch which will improve things.

Is alt+tab still broken for nvidia users while using anti-aliasing?
Is the team 2 vehicle drop still broken?
Can you actually join a special forces server without getting kicked for modified content?
Are flashbangs still broken (constant epilepsy inducing flashing instead of flash effect)?

It has been 10 months...

The update contains a lot of not requested bugs. I don't want play in bf2 where alt+tab = crash game.
I don't want see black pbss 2 years and in the future. I don't want see flying heli and tank. I don't wnat see multiple grenades(medic and ammo bugs) can appear to be thrown even though you've only thrown 1. I don't want hear healing and gunfire sounds that don't go away and remain. I don't want see death messages can appear even though you're still alive. I don't want see a lot of glitches. I want see bf2demo after pause!!!
And other, other...

Are these errors are minor and do not deserve attention?

1.5 latest patch = this is fail. :'(

Baza, you definitely need to put a focus on these two issues in the closed beta, as they actually break the game and reduce features in the game.
The latter makes commanding as team 2 rather useless.

These three issues, while not being game-breaking, are still rather annoying.

Another thing, Baza:
Will we get fixed HUDs for the widescreen resolutions?
Right now, I assume that we only get widescreen resolutions and an adapted FOV angle for those, with the HUD images being stretched.

Mouse acceleration is the same as Beta 3
ALT+TAB works fine on my nVidia machine but I can't say it'll work for everyone and we dont support ALT+TAB since BF2 launched.
Yes Special Forces works
Vehicle drops work fine unless you mean on Operation Blue Pearl which neither team has vehicle drops.
Flash bangs look fine on my machine with latest nVidia drivers.

HUD will always be stretched as BF2 just wasn't made for widescreen resolutions. They were drawn for 4:3 ratio only so for widescreen it gets stratched like you see. Its the trade off between wanting normal HUD and 4:3 or 16:9/16:10 and slightly stretched HUD.

Vehicle drops bug: Commander bug: USMC/EU/SAS/Rebels cant use Vehicle Drop!

What graphics card do you own anyway and do you have anti-aliasing enabled? Alt+tab also works fine before you load a map.

I find it quite amazing the lack of understnding of the release process here. We are talking of a major update to a game that we all paid for over 3 years ago. The update is free. We have had thousands of hours of entertainment for a low purchase price.

1.50 will not be perfect. Expect that, don;t complain when it isn't.

Software is done when its done, Beta testing does not fix bugs. It tests. From Baz's email the release is done. No more development, no more bug fixes. I guess they have a release candidate and hence the final internal beta test. So suggesting further changes or additions is crass.

Personally, and I think I speak on behalf of most BF2 fans, I am delighted we are getting anything new for BF2. As long ago as a year we had all completely given up on any further updates.

Regarding the release and the 'political' decisions, I think we can all make guesses. And my guess is that the BF2 team want to put as much into the release as possible to keep us all 'on the hook' for BF3. And that EA corporate don't want to give 'extras' away for free. Hence the debate.

Anyway, I am eagerly looking forward to the patch. But lets TRY to be grown up and sensible about its existence, completeness and purpose.

And remember, by definition, bug free software is obsolete.

First BF2 has NEVER supported ALT+TAB. Some people could do it and others couldn't. It even says this in the Readme.txt file.

Most of what you mention additional to that are hacks and Punkbuster. We do not own Evenbalance or Punkbuster and they are doing a great job at fighting a battle against a world of hackers.

Yes there is a number of issues that haven't been resolved but for a 4 year old game we have added quite a lot in this 1.50 update alone. Possibly one of the biggest updates the game has had.

Sorry it isn't enough for you but we were never going to be able to fix everything and I explained that from the start.

Proper widescreen is in with correct FoV (HUD does stretch a little though). Unfortunately the voice slider didn't make it in

I alt + tab a lot. A lot. And I haven't had a single crash while playing BF2. You probably have a piece of sh¡t, not only in your brain but also of PC.
