The tradeoff is missing: Do I want superior firepower or do I want to be able to revive people? Right now you get both when choosing the medic and that's plain stupid.

Smoke nades in vanilla are not very good. the quantity and duration of the smoke is too small. The reason is that smoke nades are a framerate killer. With modern video cards it is not an issue, but Dice won't (or cant) increase the game minimum requirements.

Instead of arguing in this forum about the usefulness of medics with smoke, WHY DON'T YOU TRY IT. Install the POE2 mod and see what its like. (its free and does not mess up vanilla bf2.)

There are legalities that prevent that. The rights of the mod would have to be owned by EA for them to become official versions of the and gain a ranked status. Do you really want that?

Why not? If the mod teams are OK with it, why not? It would really come down to what kind of agreement could be worked out between dice/ea and the mod teams. If EA agrees not to charge $$ for them, or use any of the mods custom made models and such, where is the downside? It would get more people playing the mod (win for the mod team) and it would keep interest in BF2 and maybe keep people from buying another company's game. (win for dice)

Maybe some of the mod team members could chime in on this? What would it take to allow dice to use your mod in ranked servers?

Don't you understand how much money it costs to rank new maps, let alone new weapons, vehicles, etc? There is no way they could/would pay Gamespy to rank a whole new game mode for free.

The costs to rank a new map which uses existing objects/weapons are not to mention - it takes less then 5 minutes to add it to the system if the guy doing it has a little knowledge about the game, python, aspx and databases. At least i can say that from doing that for AIXS or FMR. Maybe i should start taking money for it - if i can earn a lot for that easy task. Or maybe i work in the wrong business - because i am doing that stuff just in my freetime as a hobby.
The traffic is not really a factor for costs aswell - only if due to new maps the amount of players would double. But with the same amount of players - one player is just able to play one map at a time. If he is playing, stats either have to be processed for a new map or for a old map.

Ranking a new mod is something completely different. All new objects have to be assigned to the correct groups (Armies, Vehicletypes, Weapontypes, Soldiertypes, etc.), scripts have to be enhanced for new armies, etc. - which can eat up a lot of time if you have to do it manually and if you have to do it 100% correct.
If you are a little skilled (like Trollo e.g.) you can easy up that process aswell by creating for example a small python-script which parses the *.con's within each needed archive, compares it with a small database and automatically adds/pre-assigns the new/not existing objects.

I have seen a few servers spoof the official ranking system using the AIX mod, so it is possible. My rank and stats from the DoD servers transition between them with no issues.

Certain injuries you cant be revived from. One such injury is from the direct impact of an AT rocket. It merely hits you anywhere any its a done deal. If that's the case then AT is over powered because his rocket is fast and guided making it more accurate than any gun (just fire in the general direction of a target then move it to where they most likely went prone), you die from one hit anywhere on the body, it never causes dust (in my experience) AT is also wearing body armor. Up close their are very few weapons that can match how brutal the DAO-12 is. A squad of 3 medics cannot beat an equally skilled squad with 2 medics and and a AT player then, even if they all have a G36E.

LOL, I'm sorry what did you just say? Did you say the Sraw is actually better than a gun? Maybe, up close. At long range you can dodge it just as easy as you can an AT mine. The DAO is terrible for anything more than 10m, any person who has remote skill could take it out. And as you say, 3 medics can EASILY take down 2 medics and an AT. The only time this isn't true, is if they are just completely and uderly terrible.

I've tried and am playing PR. Couldn't download POE. Smoke grenades in PR are VEEEERY useful. U can't do anything without them. 2 smoke grenades cover a whole street and u can move anywhere and still not being seen, cause if somebody spots your team it won't show it on the non-existing map. : )

So smoke is a part of the main equipment of soldiers anywhere in the world.

Going to BF2142... I always use smoke if i have to revive somebody and he is targeted by someone (camping : S). U throw it, revive him and have time to move away unseen.

BTW. how many people worked on the BF2142 that were working on BF2?
Cause for me, IMO, the BF2142 has better awards, better unlocks, maps are designed ingeniously. U can get to 1 point in at least 3 ways going from only 1 direction. for example

Guys could we get back to the topic of bugreporting and feedback about the beta update ? Your modtalk is very interesting, but I think it doesnt belong here. I think its annoying for a guy who works on the update to read all that unwanted unhelpful chatter and nothing about the errors in the beta update. Dont want to be rude, but I was wondering if the guy whos responsible for the beta update is still watching this topic since it moved away from its supposed main target.

Nobody can test any more... connection issues prevent the beta testers - us - from testing.

Testing has, for all intents and purposes, ceased, and can not resume until the release of beta 3.

Let us all hope it is released 'soon'.

Sounds bad... I hope the beta 3 comes soon... I really do... And thx for DICE for still supporting such an old game, I was such glad to see finally the game doesnt need the dvd in the drive anymore, a big thank you for that ! I hope they will start the update for bf 2142 after theyre done with the one for Bf 2. You have promised it to us DICE, so please dont dissapoint us !

The sad thing is, BF2142 already contains a lot of bugfixes which should've been in BF2 from the beginning on, or at least in the first patches. Insta-prone accuracy should've been fixed with patch V1.01, not with patch V1.5

Hi guys. I was just wanted to ask a question about 1.50 issue.
I am using this patch 1.5 v2 and i cant set my weapons to switch with mouse. Is this my issue or I don't know how to set this? Does someone else have this problem? I could use help because changing my weapons with f key on keyboard is almost impossible. Thanks in advance in response.

I had this problem too when I used 1.50 b2, I eventually switched back to 1.41 since of the userbase still using retail release. I THINK it's an issue with the patch, and I THINK it's a known issue that is being worked on for 1.50 b3.

Thanks for the reply. I am using windows 7 x64 and I cant get back on v1.41 because it wont work. By the way do you know when 1.5 v3 is coming?

patching your only copy of BF2 was probably - a bad idea.

copying your existing copy to another folder then renaming it to BF2 1.41 would have been - a good idea.
