A few months ago we announced Battlefield 2 Update 1.50 was in development, but so far we have been quiet regarding the content of the update. It is time for us to reveal some of the features the update will contain! The priority for us in this update has been to secure Battlefield 2 against a number of attacks against the game.
We have spent time looking into the attacks and implemented short term solutions with the help of GameSpy to limit the impact of stats padding and leaderboard abuse. Other issues have been found to be game and server based, which is where Update 1.50 comes in. what Battlefield 2 1.50 will contain a number of security updates, including the following: Server crashing – We have worked with the issues causing servers to crash, which has caused problems for the community (especially those who rent ranked servers). Name/ID spoofing – Extra steps have been implemented to ensure the soldier being used belongs to the right account. Commander assets – This is to stop the excessive spawning of multiple crates, UAVs or vehicles. More information on Update 1.50 will be revealed as we approach the release date! |

Good to hear.
Also, not sure how easy this would be but when you're dead you can switch around your team (the C key) in a 3rd person view, can it be done so you get it in the first person? Would make it easier to report some one if using certain nefarious aids to gameplay.

And no, this is not just a security update, this announcement is just explaining that it has been a big focus in the update. There are other features which we will release information about as we go. |

Sounds like a good patch so far. The spoofing, crashing and hacking are the main irritants right now. It's a total shambles that the commander hack has remained unpatched for all of this though. One single cheater ruins the game for everybody, and to add insult to injury, it's probably fairly simple to fix.
Anyway, now that this is going ahead, please take your time to get it 100% right . We've endured years of commander hacking and about a year of PID spoofing, so I'm sure we can wait another few months if it means the final patch is a keeper.

No, I mean the edition of the user controls config files that allows players accelerating the APC and cars increasing speeed about 5x. They accelerate using the regular key usually "W" and the mouse scroll wheel at the same time, thus APC/car will drive a lot more faster. |

In my opinion preventing hacks working is a more important fix than stopping stats padders and stats hacking. The removal of FTP access was the most stupid decision made by EA/DICE/GameSpy as it has given plenty of hackers carte-blanche to carry on cheating with no means of being detected. A lot is riding on this patch, BF is on its last legs and a lot of people are hoping it will breathe some life back into the community. G |

![]() If anything, those punkbuster Screenshots do not seem to be very effective half the time, thus wasting system resources and killing a players connection upload to the server. Ever played on a server with constant screen shot rendering server side at the highest quality, and you have only 256k to 512k up/sec? Your ping more then doubles, you can play effectively. That's because it takes a screen on the client side and then uploads it to the server. If i am mistaken on this, please correct me. If anything, an ethereal output of a bf2 server running doing such a thing would suffice.
