Default Battlefield 2 celebrates its three year anniversary

On this day three years ago, Battlefield 2 was released and still remains one of the most played PC FPS titles.

With over 15 million player accounts being created since release, Battlefield 2 is still going strong. On the forums we often see discussions about whether there will ever be another update for the game. Well, today we are happy to announce that we are working on an update for Battlefield 2. We are planning to provide an open beta in the near future and we hope you’ll give us your feedback before final release; so watch out for that.

Keep an eye on EA - ::Battlefield Franchise:: for information on what we are working on, release dates and don’t forget to visit our forums.

In the mean time Battlefield Bad Company is released worldwide this week and we expect it will keep you occupied while we work on the update.

Good to hear! And congrats!

I hate to be the party pooper, but please... please... PLEASE work on the game before you give us new content. I could care less about new maps, I could care less about new expansions... FIX THE CURRENT STATE! (and I say that in a non aggressive attitude)

Ha ha ha!!! dead funny! reporting on a PC game you never got round to patching properly then advertising/hinting to your disaffected customers to buy a console game. Ansd I thought EA didn't have a sense of humour!

Default EA/DICE - Here are some suggestions (I hope you read this)

Hey EA/DICE.. Thanks for letting us know that you are working on an update for the game..
Now, here I have some suggestions for the update. Here are the most annoying bugs & things in BF2 that needs adressing:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* Implement the "Highway Tampa" map in the patch (so we dont need to download a extra file)
* Fix server info bug (server name/ip not always showing on the loading screen and on the "Server info" tab on scoreboard).
"Server Graphic" isnt always showing up on the loading screen either..! Please, try to fix it
* CTD when picking up a kit
* SQUAD BUG - No squads can be made, or only 1-3 can be made. To fix this, the server has to be restarted :/..
* Balance the J-10 vs F-35b
* Add Widescreen support?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Please EA/DICE, I hope you read this and I hope you fix those issues.. If you do, DAMN I WILL LOVE YOU!!
You are the best game developers out there, you can do this! Battlefield2 rocks!
It is the best game ever! =)
Keep up the good work!

Wait, since when does an annoucement mean anything around here. We have had Dice people here before telling us how a new patch was just around the corner and it never came. If they release one, great. Ill wait and see though. Im not one to count my chickens before they hatch. Call me cynical, but EA have gave us more lines than Amy Winehouse could manage.

I have refused to post regarding the patch discussion since joining EA (so over ten months now) because I have seen the promises made by those who had this job before me. I didnt want to make the same mistake, come in promising the earth and failing to deliver.

The fact I have posted this shows I am convinced there is a patch now coming and happy to report it to you guys. I do know the histroy here though

i say good work, because you got a poison chalice there
Im happy theres a patch, based on the map being an AF map though i hope AF and EF will be included in the patch, its free with the BF2 collection and better having it as a standard so maps could be used in server rotation than booting anyone who doesnt have them, plus theyre are hardly going to be any more sales of these packs for us BF2 heads that didnt bother with them in the irst place as i never see them on servers. SF's on the other hand is a great expansion an still going strong

Time will tell, but respect to EA for still supporting BF2 when the console heads are annoying us about how 7eet Bad Company is with the Frostbite engine lol

Something has to be done about one or the other as the matchup for these two aircrafts is the most lopsided no matter how you look at it. It takes no effort to shoot down a F-35 when flying in a J-10.

As for widescreen support, this is also needed as well. I have advocated this for both games (2142 & BF2) in the past on the EA-US forums. And what happens? The thread either got moved or was deleted forever for no reason. Such lacking support for displays that has continued to grow in numbers since its release is unacceptable. Eventually I simply gave up because BF2 felt more like an abandoned game due to 2142 still being supported right now. And because of that, I eventually gave up on 2142 as well because only a small portion of the clan actually bothers with 2142 with its stability problems.

And then there's Vista. Sure, it works when it works. But it doesn't work when you factor in other things. Stray from the typical setup and you run into countless problems. Get some custom-setup computers and slap in a X-Fi card into it. Then run off the latest drivers or their recent beta drivers and see how it plays with BF2, TeamSpeak, and/or Ventrilo altogether. Sure this may be an issue with the drivers themselves but sadly consumers can't do anything else but complain at Creative's forums. Y'all supported the X-Fi card. Help the consumers get something out of Creative before everyone throws their hands up in the air and ditch the company altogether.

Tell DICE 'bout these issues and get 'em to acknowledge them. 'till then, I stand firmly on not hoping that everything will be addressed or fixed in this so-called patch.

Like i said, i hope that a patch is coming, but as yet we have no details. Will it be a minor update? Will it actually for once deal with what we have asked for? Will it follow in the vein of all the others and screw up more stuff than it fixes? All factors that, as yet, we have no details on. Hence my stand off attitude towards this annoucement. I have said it in the past, i dont blame the mods here for any of EA's past screw ups with BF2. You guys are given info and when it aint backed up, unfortunately you bare the brunt of our frustration. So my comments are in no way meant as a slight towards you or your post. After 2 years i think they could have at least passed on the content of the patch.

Agreed, they lost a lot of players in that year, but better late then never. Im wondering, anybody play 2142?, what did they put in that patch??The Bf2 patch will probabely be somewhat the same, same reason anyways.

I don't play 2142 these days but here's what I do know. The 1.50 patch for 2142 adds 2 community-made maps for ranked play. It also features support for widescreen displays (through shortcut editing and then selecting the resolution in the game's video option), with correct FOV I might add (though correct me if I'm wrong on that part). They also tweaked pod manueverability. There's also Infantry-only option. And those are the major points that I can remember right off the top of my head. Other than that, it's pretty much the same ol' thing. Nothing with regards to the Voss or the Baur (typical).

So you can probably see why there are numerous skeptics here. There are a lot of outstanding issues that need to be resolved for BF2. So I see this as a giant mountain for them to climb. I don't expect them to fix everything in one go. But most of us would like to see some of the more annoying issues resolved, whatever it may be.

Personally, I'd like to see them balance the jets for a change. If not a balance, then let me fly a YF-19 (a yummy cookie to anyone who know that reference) so I can beat the pants off of the J-10 pilots.

I'd like to see them unify the expansions and boosters. Anyone who was going to buy Special forces or the booster packs has already done so. Anyone purchasing the game now, gets them for free. So just release them all for free so that servers can run the maps without the fear of alienating players.

I would love to see community made maps authorized for ranked server play. I am a big fan of the Point of existence mod, so I would love to see any or all of it imported.

As far as tweaks to the game itself, I would like to see FF on as mandatory. FF on eliminates claymore and AT mine spamming. It makes people think about where and how they place them. Yeah, i know that will never happen, but it is the simplest fix (simple = less chance to screw something else up) .

On Topic:

Balance issues that have been oustanding since or before 1.20 (you know the one's I mean) will either make or break this patch, as will any bugs left untidied. Correctly done, the patch could breathe new life into the franchise. Else it's just back to Karkand for most people for the 98762349872345th round spent there...

Slightly Off Topic:
YF-19 = The coolest, most uber "Veritech" fighter ever to grace the screens in any of the Macross anime series. Though the YF-21 was stiff competition...

And, yes, my inner nerd runs deep enough that, on something like this, if EA/DICE were ever to incorporate it into their BFxxxx franchise, I'd instantly forgive them for all the pain they've caused and pre-order it on the spot.

Macross pwns all anime (for its day, in its time). Period. And Macross Plus ***pwned all its brothers.

BF: Macross would be the ***pwnbbq of the century, and would have me doing all of these.

(my current state)
(announced in developement)
(admitted to the closed beta)
(rush to purchase)
(played the game)

Some of my idea's maybe, or certainly some things to take into consideration

The J10 does rape everything, which technically it shouldn't be able to, so that need sorting, and the F35b hover mode needs sorting. Why oh why does it cut the engine when you switch to hover when really all it should do is open the venting system and change the thruster to move down, you know, a bit like the HeloJet in 2142 - same principal.....
Also the EuroFighter seems a worse plane to fly in the Euro Forces pack than the really old J10 when it is a much more advanced plane.

Even though I bought the Addon packs, I agree that they should be now included them for free with the update. It is very annoying when you kill the server because players just don't have the packs

Also, do something with the Blackhawks etc, give them machineguns, rockets or something for the pilot to defend or attack with.

Make IGLA's stronger, 2 hits to a plane should kill it, which is hard enough with a half decent pilot.

I won't go into the Glitching into buildings problem.

Oh and making the planes either have 2 bombs with single bomb drops or 4 bombs with 2 bomb drops, but put a reload time in between of the 4 bombs option

there you have it for now. Great to here there is a patch coming, I just hope it is for the better and not worse
