Yeah, so after 6 pages of waffle all we really want to know if there is going to be a fix for some obvious issues.
If not delete this thread..its quite annoying now sitting there at the top of the board like a red herring festering away, with the stench of hope being the attractant. Last edited by Mrky203; 03-02-2008 at 08:15 AM.. |

There wont be another patch, its not speculation, and no matter what pre-typed out line of lala you get here telling you they dont know, thats the plain and simple truth. Do you honestly think they will throw out a patch now, after 14 months of nothing? Guys, get real. Its as good as its going to get. Agreed, delete this thread. Its a waste of time, and here purely to give dreamers some place to post rather than clutter up the forums with "in the next patch they should do such and such...."

The question I ask myself is, why havent Ea dragged this title out in a similar way to the sims2 (multiple expansions/addons/game aspecs/community driven). The players seemed to wanted more from the game, and that is satisfied to some extent by the mod community. but why didnt ea get on this tip and rince bf2 for all it is worth??

Oh they tried to. Of the three expansions peddled, the only one worth anything was Special Forces. The other two were initially available as download only due to EA corporate greed in wanting every penny for themselves & not putting them to retail. As a result, very few people took them up, there were very few servers online & they died a quick death.
The other problem with the expansions was that BF2 needed a patch to incorporate each one. They gave the job of patching to the now defunct DICE Canada who proved themselves to be a cross between the Muppet show & the missing link between man & ape. They pretty much couldn't code to save their lives, as proved by the 1.3 patch which caused a lot of people to abandon the game. If you weren't onboard back then, the patch was released so that you could play the final expansion. It wasn't tested enough before release which resulted in lots of people having their online games ended regularly with the message "There is a problem with your connection". Some people weren't even this lucky. The game that run under 1.21 on their systems wouldn't run under 1.3. Will BF2 ever get another patch? No, hell will freeze over first. Even it if did, I wouldn't trust DICE not to make the game worse. All I hope for is that BF3 is coded & supported better. Hopefully, by someone other than DICE who don't seem up to coding FPS's. ^ Frankly, given their record in many of their games, not just BF2, I don't trust EA to publish games that don't suffer from similarly poor design, implementation, and support. EA is long and hard practiced at making buggy, poorly or even unsupported games. Look at how their latest "it" game Crysis turned out; riddled with bugs and the most immense resource hog I've ever seen... Just another over-hyped, rushed-to-retail EA game to throw on the pile.
Short of some miraculous turnaround, I wouldn't touch BF3 with a ten foot pole. I certainly wouldn't rush out to pick it up off the shelf even then. It would be several months of listening to people's opinions of it on forums like these (because the review sites are all on EA's payroll in one form or another and can't be trusted).

I havent bothered visiting this forum for ages, most of the good posters left, the moderation became totally over the top and any reasonable discussion was spoiled - I really cant believe that the "patch" discussion thread is still going - of course there wont be a patch, you have more chance of celebrating Hanukkah in the West Bank.
The most embarrassing aspect is that the EA supermods are still maintaing a "wait and see" stance - which is violently absurd. Patch Schmatch - you heard it here first : THERE WILL BE NO BF2 PATCH To even entrtain the quantum mechanical possibility of it happening would be flawed, it revokes the Heisenberg uncertainty principle - you can simultanoeusly know that there wont be a patch AND how fast it wont arrive

I haven't read much of this thread, too many replies, however i would like to add a few ideas if a patch is to be made.
Firstly it would be great if ALL players could get the Special Forces unlocks regardless if they have Spec Ops or not. The other thing would be about the commander using vehicles (tanks, APCs, aircraft etc), i think they should make it so a player can commandeer the vehicle. I got this idea from Single Player, for example, when two bots get in to a tank then you can run up to it and press E, get in and force one of the bots out, then if you want, you say 'get out' and the other bot gets out. I think the same should be possible for commanders, make it so if they take a tank for instance, and another player can get to it and then press E to get in, then they should be able to get in automatically just like with the bots in Single Player. Again, if the player says 'get out' then the commander should automatically get out like with bots. Or, maybe make it so the commander simply can't get in to any hardware in the first place (apart from things like Ground Defence (TOW or crew served machine guns) and Air Defence (USS Essex and Stingers/AA). I am unsure if this is possible, but i got the idea from the fact that an MEC or PLA player can't enter the USS Essex Phalanx CIWS (Close-In Weapon System aka AA), so it is possible to prevent certain players entering certain weapon systems, so maybe it is possible to prevent the commander from doing the same, just covering more vehicles and of course on the same team. Just a thought. What do we think? |

What's that then? You mean another game that will be released well before it's ready in typical EA-fashion, full of bugs and glitches, and still be ahead enough of the technology curve that virtually no body will have the hardware to run it?
![]() You know, he may actually be on to something there.

Yeah, BUT LOOK AT THE WATER REFLECTIONS! Any game with such realistic graphics just has to be good. |

Except that there were dozens of bugs and the ending just completely sucked. Judge not a book by its cover. Judge not a game by its graphics.
![]() [Edit] If you've played Crysis, you'll know exactly what the animation above is.

actually, i was so disappointed with the demo, i never bought the full game.
I would happily spend $50 on BF3 if it kept the bf2 level of graphics, but fixed all of the bugs of bf2. But we all know thats not going to happen. The dice team has been hard at work delivering the next generation of graphic complexity while totally ignoring the aspects that make a game fun. Thats my theory, anyway. I have another theory.. about the brontosaurus. it was thin at one end, much, much thicker in the middle and thin again at the far end. |

LoL!
I won't argue with you on either of those two points. I'll admit though, I had been following the development of Crysis for so long that I couldn't "not buy it" without seeing all my research go to waste. The technical achievements are, admittedly, quite stunning. It's too bad the game's actual design failed to deliver, however. I chalk that up to EA's iron-clad 90 day development cycle to meet the Holiday shopping season. ![]() What with how BF2 has turned out, I haven't bothered to sniff around at other EA-labeled wares apart from Cryis and Spore, which will probably be my last EA purchase as, like I had with Crysis, I've been following it for some time as well.
