Default Help Guide For Joining Friends, Logging into EA, Etc...

Hi Everyone,

Now that we have sorted most (not all) of our issues on our end we'd like you to try some of these suggestions that have helped many resolve issues that have affected them playing BF1943. If trying these still don't help please feel free to post in here about you issue. Give as much detail as possible or we can't help no matter how badly we'd like to.

Also, if you've found solutions please post them and I'll add them to this post with credit to you for the help.

Playing With Friends (Squad & Private Matches)
If you still can't connect on Xbox 360 or PS3 and are behind a Network Router/Gateway you should forward the ports listed below. If you don't know how to do this grab your nerdiest friend to help or go to your Router/Gateway manufacturers support site.

PS3 Users: Use these ports or DMZ your system to allow these services.
Incoming:
10000/UDP

Outgoing:
80/TCP
13020/UDP
18231/UDP
18236/UDP&TCP

XBOX 360 Users: Having the correct ports forwarded for some is the most important thing for you to do and can easily block joining friends in our game.

TCP Ports: 80, 13020, 18280, 18285
UDP Ports: 53, 3074, 11000-11030, 18285

Background on how it is set-up: We use the built in friend invite system for Xbox 360, one thing they don't allow is inviting a friend to play on a full server. This was also the cause of not being able to squad up with friends when most servers were full. Also, if the person that created the squad pr Private match has any issues joining friends or port restrictions when attempting to connet it will fail for everyone. If it fails see if a different friend can start it instead, but the person with issues won't connect and the others without these issues will.

We are double checking things on our end because last Saturday we found an issue that was breaking this system, but please try these suggestions to see if they help.

Connecting To EA Online

If you can't connect to EA Online or get dropped right away read over this and hopefully it can help.

Xbox 360 Full Game & PS3 Full Game Users & PS3 Trial: If you have played older EA Online Games you created a Persona on an older Legacy system, this has issues sometimes connecting to that persona for BF1943 since it uses a newer account system. We put out a fix in our log in system, but seems this didn't help everyone. If you think this is the case you can sometimes fix this by downloading a newer EA Demo of a full game that allows online connections. It will sort your accounts persona for you console and then allow it to be used in Battlefield 1943. If this doesn't help contact EA Support so they can manually fix this on the back end of our system.

Xbox 360 Trial Users: Microsoft does not allow Trial users without an EA Online account already to be required to have an account. Because of this we create a spoof account that that you never see happens. For odd reasons some of this get stopped for connecting to EA Online. We put out a fix in our log in system, but seems this didn't help everyone. One way to solve this is like mentioned above, so if you think this is the case you can fix this by downloading a newer EA Demo of a full game that allows you to create a real EA Online account on Xbox 360. It make a Xbox 360 persona and attach it to your EA Online account you now made and use the same created persona in Battlefield 1943. Creating this account should solve it and please use and email and make a password you'll remember. You can use this account for any Online EA game and log into EA.com with the email and password you created.

Generic Info for All Connection Issues
Keep in-mind some ISP's have restrictions in their network, you connect to the Internet through them and they filter all data. They can easily not know they block a legit service or access to play our game, so contact their customer support as well. This seems more common in the U.K., Denmark, and Japan. The easiest way to test this is if during off peak times like 01:00 to 06:00 you can play and then it stops and happens every day that is them controlling access and limiting usage to lower daily bandwidth cost on their end. They also over subscribe users, meaning they have enough bandwidth for 5 users at the listed speed, but have 15 users sharing that. We can't control this and it upsets us as much as you, we want you to play, trust me!

A good Router/Gateway can make a huge difference, they are in essence a computer managing your internet connections and can very easily bottleneck this and ruin you online experience. Use this link to see which router/gateways are awesome and which are not. And think of it like this, would you want a Ferrari with a 90 horsepower engine?
SmallNetBuilder - Small Network Help - Router Performance Comparison Charts - WAN to LAN Throughput

I will update this when needed and edit any mistakes or grammar errors found.

Edit#1: Already added something I forgot for Xbox Squad & Private Match
Edit#2: Corrected PS3 ports.
Edit#3: Updated the Xbox 360 playing with friends.

Good to hear this form you Gordon.
But one of the issues we'd most likely see fixed is the Voip chat, after only minutes of play you aren't able to hear your fellow squad members anymore, you can just play alone then, cause it's almost the same..

Ingame Squad Invite Issue:

Heya Gordon... Apparently there is a problem with the squad invite when in a game. If say I am in clan XXX and join a game as a squad with 3 others, and then 4 more XXX members follow us into a game, but get put on the other team, the game allows you to send them a squad invite and switch teams (need to break off the initial squad to have room in squad first). While this in of itself is a good thing, (me and my friend used it to get back on the same team many times after being split up) the problem is it allows players to swap teams if the first team is already at 12 players.

People have seen 11v13, even 8v15 in a game due to this.

Thanks for the heads up, but I rather you play together at this point than not. And thanks for evidence this does work.

Oh I totally agree being able to play with friends is more important... I only see it as a problem cause you KNOW how clans like to abuse stuff for easy kills and wins, and them doing that will drive away the masses of players you got.

Not a big deal yet with the low number of vets compared to the vast number of newbie players, they can only kill a couple servers at a time out of probably hundreds

I do like the squad system though

Since your here though... I thought that there was team chat available when in squads

Nah, it is only for those not in the squad, maybe for BFBC2.

Nice to see a fix for these issues, but I have already tried downloading a Demo of an EA game. Still doesn't let me connect to EA online

Is there any plans on making the Private match without a player limit?

First of all, thanks for an awesome game! This is the first game where flying is _FUN_ and not over simplified (it could be harder though ).

To the topic: I'm still having issues with disconnections from the game if I don't put the PS3 in the DMZ. I've forwarded the mentioned ports as well as a bunch of other PSN ports to the PS3 and I've got UPnP enabled on the network, but still no luck. The game runs fine for 5 - 10 minutes and then disconnects with the "You've been disconnected" error.

I've got a Linksys WRT54G router with custom DD-WRT firmware connected to a 50M/10M fiber broadband. I've also tried using the wireless with similar results.

I have had my PS3 on the DMZ since day one and have experienced problems joining friends every time I have played. Even after confirming that there is room in a game, I rarely can join session. Squading up is a chore as often part of the squad gets in, but others dont. If by some miracle we actually make it into a room we are probably not on the same team. If we are the first round, the second round someone will be on the other team.

You guys have been cutting corners in all the wrong places since you moved to the frostbite. I realize you are playing catchup since the transition, but leaving out very simple features and UI functions is going to hurt you in the long run (console players will not just bend over and take it for long), if you want BC2 to be anywhere near CoD4 you guys better get the core of your game completed before trying to add new content.

There is a reason CoD can mass produce almost identical games, they have a solid foundation to do it with, you do not, stop acting like you do and create one for yourself.

Love the game, love the series, lets show the FPS world why Battlefield was once king!

Hey, thanks for the info but I have a question. Do I have to open up ports if I made my Xbox 360 a DMZ server? You mentioned it for PS3 but not for Xbox 360 so I just wanted to make sure.

Depends on your firewall setup, but usually DMZ is as open as you can get i.e. all ports are forwarded to the DMZ server.

Hi there,

Thank you for the information.
Does this solve the problem with the connection that I lose ingame?
I play for about 15-30 minutes and sometimes 1-2 hours.
it's not my internet connection, i'm still on PSN when it happens.
It's not the internal firewall. I have UnPn turned on.
What could it be?
I become the following message:
Connection to the game has been lost.
Please check your connection and try again.

It's on my PS3 --> FULL GAME
ISP: KPN
SPEED: 12 mbit/s

With kind regards,

Remunj!

You giving us some guide to set up Nat and ports DMZ we didint payed for that but for pure gaming with minimum problems.Others developers can do good multipayer games but you not.I'm so angry that i payed for something only 9.99£ but still payed what i cant play only early morning or after 1am.It Suck's

First of all friend, what's 12.99€ ? Nothing..
Get some empty dvd's that's more expensive...
Second one, they are doing their best to fix everything.. every PS3/Xbox user has a different set-up they can't just make a game that has everything in it. They need feedback from people like us.
I think you have to complain about this on the - 12 forum..

Have a nice day.
