Trouble connecting to a co-op game with a friend

Like the thread title says - I can not connect to a friend when we try to play online. When either of us accepts an invite from the other it just displays the message that the game has finished or could not be found or there was a connection error (pretty vague). I have NO firewalls - that includes on the router and I have tried punching NAT holes. All other EA online games (Medal of Honor Airborne, Orange Box, Burnout) all work fine; Army of Two seems to be the only one I have trouble with. We've both tried it with a third person and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

what console are you using ps3 or xbox and remeber the game is region locked as if you are from the us and he is from europe you can not play against each other.

Sorry, I can't believe I managed to forget those details

I'm on PS3 and all the discs used the European SKU's.

yes just remember if some one is in the us they can not play with europe as region locked.

The person lives 20 mintues away from me and is on the same ISP.

thats wiered my mateslives same distance and we can play best to contact your isp.
