Yes, i have a virgin media 8mb adsl connection.
Like i said above my knowledge of networking is just the basics, but i don't think it matters what kind of connection you have, the purpose of ip addressing is so that routers and other pcs on the network know where to send their packets, so i would assume that that is no different on a cable connection and that you will need some sort of network ip address. If you try it and it does'nt work then you can just revert back to "auto".
