What about the tackling? You tackle a striker and by the time your defender has control of the ball to play it out you are counter-tackled on (or in) your 18 yard box for a great scoring opportunity. If EA insist on it taking a second or two for my defender to control the ball to play a controlled pass out, then the just-tackled-striker shouldn't really get to re-tackle me (certainly not knock my defender down or push him off the ball) until I have a chance to enter that window of control.

Also, I hate how you can tackle a striker head on and the ball bounces around and into the path and instant control of the same (or nearby striker) as he continues his run unabated. That's pure lalalala. I don't know how many ranked matches I've given up on simply because of ridiculous goals that come from situations like this. Once in a blue moon sure, but one or two every game or two? The initiative surely must go to the defender here.
Finally, the strong (sliding) tackle calls are pretty bad. I've beaten his left mid with my right mid and he will use a sliding tackle as a last resort, the ball will not be touched (not even close) and my player is dumped (from behind or diagonally from behind) and no call is made. I'm pretty sure checking if the ball is touched isn't that hard. Did it change direction? No? Ok, did the player get knocked off his feet? Yes? Call a foul. It's not rocket science. Here's one versus the computer on world class:
EA SPORTS World - Sliding Tackle No Call 1. That's not even egregious relative to the ranked matches I'm really concerned about.
Here's another thing I hate: by the time I've switched control to the receiving player and pull on the left stick for him to check to a pass often the defender is somehow ahead of me and intercepts the pass.
