Chelsea Power Through Villa
Chelsea 3-0 Villa
Aston Villa’s up and down season continued today, going down to 2nd place Chelsea, who’s dominant performance will act as a warning to other teams in the race for Premiership honours, that Chelsea mean business. Although Chelsea had less possession of the ball and lesser shots on goal, the win was a comfortable one for Luiz Scolari’s men, who are now favourites to take out the Premier League, sitting comfortably in 2nd spot, only 2 points behind surprise packets Middlesbrough on the league table.
England’s clash with Italy this week saw a number of stars missing from both teams, but it was Villa who looked the worse for wear as O’Neill was forced to play Daniel Sturridge in place of Gabriel Agbonlahor and Gareth Barry’s absence in midfield was felt as Chelsea took control of the match in the 36th minute, a goal from Deco, silencing the Villa crowd.
Despite throwing everything at Chelsea, Villa could not make their way past Petr Cech who came away with the man of the match award, beating out Florent Malouda for the award who scored 2 goals in the second half. His one man effort in the 48th minute displaying the class that led to his transfer to Chelsea in 2007. The second a penalty after Deco was fouled in the box, some saying the referee was to eager in blowing the whistle but still the goal counts and Chelsea showed they mean business with a great 3-0 win.
