LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB has several of the world’s most fierce rivalries, and among them some of these include, but are not limited too:
Manchester United: This is arguably the fiercest rivalry in not only England but in all of Europe. Spain has the El Classico, Holland has the Amsterdam derby, but England has the north west derby between the two best teams in England. In all of history Liverpool has been the best club, however on current form Manchester United has prevailed. Every game is played around midday to stop alcohol comsumption which in turn leads to violence which occurs nearly every time these two sides meet.

Everton: Possibly the closest derby geographically as one field separates these two teams, a field that will soon become Stanley Park. They have a fierce yet peaceful derby which in many cases separates families and friends for that one afternoon. In both long term history and short term results Liverpool has been by far the stronger outfit, and unless David Moyes can turn the team around this trend is set to continue.
Chelsea: This rivalry has evolved far more over the past few years as England made its dominance clear in the Champions League. For three of the past four seasons Liverpool and Chelsea have met in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League. Luckily Liverpool are up 2-1, having gone on to win in 2005 and become runners up in 2007. This also highlighted the rivalry between former manager Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez, a truly amazing sight of charisma verse brains.

AC Milan: Another rivalry that has formed over recent times. This is mainly due to the fact that the two teams have met in several high level European tournaments, namely that fact they met in both the 2005 and 2007 Champions League finals, the latter being AC Milans win. However the 2005 win was regarded by some as the greatest European Cup win in history, as Liverpool came from 3 goals down in the 1st half, to win on penalties after three equalising goals in quick secsession from Steven Gerrard, the outgoing Vladimir Smicer and finally Xabi Alonso. Many more important bouts are almost sure to occurr in the future.

Nottingham Forest: This rivalry was formed not by years of rivalry, but one single event. In 1989 Liverpool were playing an FA Cup match against Forest, and it was at this match that the world famous Hillsborough disaster occurred. 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives that die. It was the single worst day in the history of the Worlds Most Successful club. This rivalry however turned into more of a somber mood, and both clubs paid respect to eachothers fans. The following weekend AC Milan sung out 'You'll Never Walk Alone' as they took to the field at the San Siro. It was something gave goosebumps to those involved.
