Manchester City was formed in 1880 by Anna Corwell and two wardens of St Mark's Church for men of the area to have something to do in the Winter Months the team was then called St Mark's. The first Officially Recorded game they played was against a church team from Macclesfield. In 1884 the team merged with another team and was then called Gorton Athletic, the merger lasted only a few months before the teams split again and St Mark's renamed themselves to West Gorton Athletic, in 1887 West Gorton Athletic turned professional changing there name to Ardwick AFC. The first major trophy they won was the Manchester Cup beating Newton Heath who would later change there name to Manchester United. This success made the Football League put Ardwick into Division 2 and Ardwick became founding members of Division 2. A year later financial troublelalalala Ardwick AFC and reorganization of the club led to the name being changed again this time to Manchester City Football Club, they have had this name since 1893.
Since then Manchester City has won 2 First Division Titles, 7 Second Division Titles, 4 FA Cup's, 2 League Cup's, 3 Charity Shields and 1 European Cup Winner's Cup, they have also been runner up in many competitions. However Manchester City's last Trophy win was in 2001/02 which was the Second Division Title.
