Brief Club History
AC Milan was founded on December 16, 1899 by Englishmen Alfred Edwards and Herbert Kiplin. The first trophy won by Milan was Medaglia del Re (Kings Medal) in January 1900. From 1901 to 1907 Milan won 3 national leagues. In 1908 arguments over signing foreign players occurred and Inter Milan was formed. In 1919 Milan changed there name from Milan Cricket and Football Club to Milan Football Club, in 1938 Milan again changed there name this time to Associazione Calcio Milan that is still the current name of the team, during the 1950's Milan won 4 Serie A titles, In 1962-1963 Milan won there first UEFA Champions League then known as the European Cup, they also won there second European Cup in the 1968-1969 season, In the 1970's Milan won there 10th Serie A but got relegated to Serie B on promotion back to Serie A Milan got relegated again back to Serie B, from the 1986 to 1996 Milan assembled a team that many called the Dream Team under the presidency of Silvio Berlusconi, the team during these years included Paolo Maldini and Marco van Basten, After Fabio Capello left in 1996 Milan had won 17 titles in the last 10 years alone, under new manager Oscar Washington Tabarez Milan struggled and finished a disappointing 11th in Serie A, from 1997 to 2001 Milan managed to win only 1 trophy and that was the 1997-1998 Serie A, in the 2002-2003 season under new manager Carlo Ancelotti Milan won their 6th UEFA Champions League on penalties against other Italian side Juventus, during that season they also won the Coppa Italia and the European Super Cup, In the 2003-2004 Milan won there 17th Serie A and there last to this date, in 2004-2005 Milan managed second in both Serie A and the UEFA Champions League, In 2005-2006 Milan were part of the Calciopoli scandal and were deducted 44 points out of the 88 they got that season also they were to be deducted 15 points at the start of the next season however, the point deductions were however reduced to 30 and 8 respectively, in 2006-2007 Milan won there 7th UEFA Champions League thanks to a brace by Filippo Inzaghi against Liverpool who beat Milan in the 2004-2005 UEFA Champions League, Milan had a very poor 2007-2008 season as they missed out on UEFA Champions League Qualification and they were knocked out in the first knockout round of the UEFA Champions League, What does the 2008-2009 season hold many Milan fans will be wondering will new manager Caleb Ward have an impact on the club will new signings Fernando Torres and Sergio Ramos impact the club as much as they impacted there last clubs???? Only time will tell but 1 thing is for sure AC Milan won't go down without a fight.
