Portsmouth have returned from a successful tour of Holland, coming away with a whitewash of the best Holland has to offer with convincing wins in their four matches agianst AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven and Ajax. With Tony Adams in charge of the boys, Portsmouth got off to a good start with a 4-1 win over AZ Alkmaar. Peter Crouch and Jermaine Defoe looking fantastic in their first match as strike partners both amongst the goals.

With Sol Campbell now almost certain to leave the club, being left out of the travelling squad David James was given the captain’s armband and played a vital role in the three matches he took part in, making some fantastic saves and rallying his troops to a run of great wins.

The second match against Feyenoord saw Armand Traore and Jean Francois Cristophe score on debut for the club sealing a 2-0 win for Pompey and going into the 2 final matches with PSV and Ajax with a boost of confidence.

The match against PSV saw Peter Crouch score his first hat trick for the club, a feat he accomplished with some great solo play, his height and strength to much for the PSV defence to handle. Not to be outdone Jermaine Defoe would put three past Ajax keeper Maarten Stekelenburg to finish with 6 goals in the pre-season tour, looking in great form just weeks out from the kick off of the Premier League season.
