The physics are fine in this game. Have you not heard the saying "row Z" when RL players take shots.
If you only watch MOTD then you wont see all the high wide and hansome shots!
Also do a youtube for cross bar challenge (soccer am do it) and you will see some wildly varying shots and swerve etc
