guys you know what the problem is here?

it's the FIXED BUDGET given to the fifa 09 team...

this is the problem with multi-platform releases around the same time... in order to cut costs and meet deadlines, the fifa 09 team had to take short-cuts and give priority to the console versions (for the simple reason that there are a greater variety of consoles and EA can make more $$ rather than focusing just on PC alone).

However one shining example of great compatibility across all platforms is Bioshock. Bioshock was released on Xbox 360 and PC on the same day in August 2007.

The publisher for Bioshock took the time n effort to include DirectX 10 effects so that next-gen graphics card (nvidia's g80 series at that point in time) and windows vista users could get the most out of the game. Bioshock eventually looked better on PC than on console platforms.

Fifa 09's failure is that the graphics are no where near 'leading-edge' as they claim it to be. With powerful graphics cards like nvidia's next-gen cards with Unified Architecture and ATI's decent 38xx and 48xx series, EA has no excuse to leave player models for fifa 09 on PC looking like zombies or plastic toys. The graphics engine is obviously not optimised for PC and the ugly stadiums, lighting effects and 2d crowd graphics as compared to the console versions are unacceptable.

Their statement that 'game architecture doesn't suit the PC and wouldn't run well on it' is just a cheap excuse. If you read between the lines, this statement just means that the game was customised for consoles and not much effort was put into upgrading and optimising the game for the PC version.

Gameplay-wise FIFA 09 loses out to PES 2009 for sure. I've tried both games and PES reigns supreme because of all the subtle differences such as player-collsions, responsiveness of controls, computer AI, ball-heading (FIFA series really sucks because of unresponsive heading), through-passes, tactics customisation, etc. all of which PES is superior to FIFA 09 in.

FIFA 09 is more like Virtua Soccer that you find in arcades.
