Rovers Shock The League

Andrei Arshavin finally makes his Premiership arrival.

Blackburn this lunch time scheduled a surprise press conference for all of the national sports journalist's and broadcaster's to attend. Nothing was released as to what it was for but after Paul Ince's interview last week it was pretty clear that it was going to be nothing else but a new player arriving at Ewood Park. Its a rare commodity nowadays that a transfer goes through with no speculation or media interference even more so when its a world renowned talent like the one introduced today. Paul Ince at around 3pm today entered the Blackburn press room with a smile as big as could be as he formally introduced to Russian striker Andrei Arshavin to the stunned journalist's in attendence.

"Well, i told you i would have some news for you sooner rather than later (Ince laughs). I can officially announce today that we have completed the signing of Andrei from Zenit St. Petersberg for a fee which we wish to remain private."

Ince later welcomed all questions from the gathered press but did emphasize that the transfer fee would not be disclosed. It didnt stop anyone having a go at trying to get a figure though.

"We understood that Zenit did not accept a £19m plus offer from Tottenham, would we be right in thinking that the fee is over this number?"

"Sorry, but we do not wish to talk about the fee as i said before. We have a world class player here sitting beside us. Surely you can come up with some more creative questions guys?"

Ince gently reminded everyone that he would not back down over the transfer fee remaining private. The questions then turned to Andrei Arshavin and what where his motives for joining Blackburn Rovers.

"My English is not great, (Andrei Smiles) i love the game in Premiership. It is fun to watch and i hope is fun to play. I chose Blackburn over two other teams because they showed how much they wanted me, i felt wanted that is my reason for joining this team."

This is a deal that will no doubt silence the fans over the lack of money being put back into the team. Blackburn have got themselves one of the most sort after players in Europe at this moment in time and not enough praise can go to Paul Ince for making it happen and also not forgetting the Blackburn board for making the funds available. Arshavin will be looking to make his debut for Rovers this weekend as the Premiership gets underway.
