However there are other ATM tricks,
Lay them in a row and rocket them creating a ditch, do this a couple times (often close to ammo crate right?) and you can create a real obstacal for tanks. 2 wide with a third row center to make it deeper is ideal, EotL this is easy by the ammo crate

Foxhole fighing positions, you can create fighting positions for you and your team, Hide in the to shoot your RPG at tanks from, ducking down protects you from fire and being run over.

Also, for areas like Over and out ruins, you can toss your ATMs around where the attackers will come at you. When everyone starts lobbing grenades at incomming enemy, they will occasionaly hit your ATM's creating bigger explosion radiuses. This works GREAT around crates since they don't hurt the crates anymore. Obviously its better to use them for AT purposes, but if there are no tanks.....
