My feeling after playing the demo is generally positive.
The Good:
- The player models and the pitch are both absolutely stunning, especially when you zoom out to the broadcast camera angle. It looks almost real; anything that makes my GeForce 8800 GTX OC run slow gets a thumbs up in my book.
- The new collision system is...interesting. Some of the animations are really cool when you first see them, especially when you upend someone from behind or jostle with them at a corner.
- The game feels more fluid than both FIFA 08 and EURO 2008. I feel like I have more control over my player.
- The mouse control is hard. But in a good way. When I lose a match because I don't know how to use the mouse control properly, it's my fault, not the game's, and I like that.
- The CPU doesn't go into invincible mode when you score a goal! Wahey!
- The new menu layout is sharp and nice. Definitely a step up from 08.
- And the crowd! Yes, the crowd, it's the one from World Cup 2006, innit? Very good.
The Bad:
- Collision system aside, there aren't enough new animations. I see the same one-touch passing animation three plays in a row and I can't help but think "...Haven't we been here before?".
Nitpicking:
- The referee doesn't do anything, nor do the linesmen.
- When you see the players in the tunnel before a match, you can see them sweating. This is understandable if it's a hot, sunny day, but not when I've got the weather conditions set to 'Winter'.
- Is it me, or does Didier Drogba's forehead look freaking huge?
