You know i'm pretty sure in 2007 it was said you could have multiple accounts due to this new protection being based on activations, if I find the proof i'll link it (finding it isn't the biggest thing on my agenda atm). I think the fact of the spore manual reflects this since manuals are usually typed well in advance so they can be printed etc.
Assuming its true looks like EA did a back pedal and screwed everyone again. Someone should photocopy the manual or send the pdf format or something to trading standards (for UK people) and complain. It states one thing but then runs off in different direction. Its time someone called EA out on their behaviour and slapped them for it. If you have the time/money sue them through the civil courts.
