As it is right now I'm unable to make peace with them again too so the game is kinda screwed. Not only do I have to fend off pirates and eco disasters but now there's the Grox destroying colonies too.

I passed them and reached the center, I'll tell you how and it's working 100%, please buy as much energy and ammo as you can, try to increase your health level to 6,000 then you can go planet by planet through Grox empire when ever your health lowered just land on a planet (short fight) charge up and countinue, if you found a calm solar system (SAVE Game) over there, you should be able to reach the center in around 30 or 45 mins...
