Lloyd will teach you how to write decent markup, which is the most important thing. His design skills are somewhat limited though.

No. I really do think they've had their day. Unless a CMS has been heavily modified (which is more work than developing one yourself), you can spot it a mile off.

I couldn't sell a website to someone based on a pre-built CMS, for example, I create them from scratch. They do what the client needs, and nothing more.

A CMS is like a Swiss Army Knife (kinda). Lots of stuff, but you really only need the knife.
