What I think is funny, is that if you look at these threads in a years time the argument will be totally different. Imagine Rooney scores something ridiculous like 10 goals in the first 8 games, everyone will be back on here saying "OMGZOR why is Rooney under-rated!!!! He's scored more than Ronaldo!!!!!!!111111" (example case, look at Arsenal last year. Who would have predicted Adebayor having such an explosive start to the season?)
You can't rate players and change their overall on form, you've got to look at their individual stats, rate them fairly, and don't really care what the overall comes out at. IMO, Rooney's overall stats should be higher than Ronaldo's. Rooney's stats are based on him being a striker, so he would get a high overall. Ronaldo's are based on him being a winger, so if you give him good finishing attributes that wont affect his overall rating, and if you give him, in my opinion fairly, lower passing attributes, that will lower his overall as a winger. (His assists werent all that great last season, he's too greedy)
In that situation, Ronaldo might play on the game better than Rooney does, but his overall will be lower.
