Determination is great, so is chasing the ball down field. But there are many lesser quality players that can do that job. I call that a role player, every team needs them. But every team needs a star as well.
And Ronaldo is the brightest one on Manchester right now. The rarer, of the two qualities mentioned- the role player versus the star. I'll pick the star first always. Since I can throw a meagerly 3 millions pounds for a ball chaser way more often, before I land the World FIFA Player of the world. Get it?
Yes Rooney is a star in his own right, but he's not the brightest on his team to date. That's Ronaldo. You just can't argue that. And in my opinion- the real reason why the two never got along well.
You need the ball chaser no doubt...but then the ball chaser always gives it to the playmaker...and if you think the bigger playmaker is Rooney...it doesn't show up on the score card. But you can see the tangible, affect with Ronaldo.
That's when rubber hits the road, Tevez and Rooney are the same...but you wouldn't compare Tevez surely to Ronaldo. Would you?
Keep the bias down and look at things objectively.
Ronaldo is the World Player of the Year. You don't get that by rolling on the ground, and having your hands constantly on your hips. Even though I think he does spend way to much time crying to officials and eating salad on the pitch.

Yeah you are right to a certain extent.. But thats my opinion.
I'm not biased atall. Ronaldo is an EXCELLENT player. But if i was Sir Al. I would much prefer team play, than just one player robbing all the glory. And that's what Ronaldo is doing. When was the last time any other attacking player in the United squad got any PROPPER credit. Because i can't remember for the life of me.
And yes the bigger playmaker out of the two is Rooney. If you look at the stats. Ronaldo only offered 9 assists this season. When Rooney achieved 13. And if you've got Rooney threading in passes into the box like he normally does. It really isn't hard to score
And the reason Rooney hasn't had one of his best seasons to date. Is the fact he's been played out of position. Ronaldo came to United as a striker. And is being played as a wide-right striker. Rooney came to United as a striker. And is being played as an attacking-midfielder/left-winger; Not his natural position

Would Ronaldo be able to do that inured ?
I greatly doubt it. He would be sat on the floor crying.
