well unfortunately for what ever shop he bought it from, they are required by law and consumer rights to replace faulty equipment themselves. And that is a law not just me saying take it back. If the shop still refuses i recommend you email trading standards as its the shops responsibility to give u a replacement, then EAs resposibility to replace the shops faulty stock. Trust me. By saying return it to EA they are just trying to cut out the middle man and make u wait longer. As long as u have proof of purchase you should be fine
