Tim Burton has a reputation for dark, more macabre films. So I agree with that statement even without seeing the other batman films other than once when some of it was on t.v. once. Not sure which.

As for the darkness of the comic world. I'm not so sure Batman was really that dark a comic. The Joker was kinda creepy, yeah, for a villain, but overall, Batman was just. Dull, imo, not really so much 'dark'.

Unless you count the fact that he wears black, a lot of it appears to be dark in New York or wherever it's set, and the Joker's in the shade sometimes.
