First i would like to say is we are living in a different generation comparing to the 60s and 80s, and i think the generation now is alot more tougher tactically and physically comparing to the old days. We also have all the technologies in the world to judge players now, stats, tv angles/replays. Which shows player's flaws.

i think messi and ronaldo are both ON THE WAY to be a great. But alot of things can happen in 10 years, eg ronaldinho was on top of the world only 2-3 years ago, people described him as being one of the modern greats but look at him now! according to rumours he will never be able to play the way he used to play. If Ronaldo can sustain him currently form consistently over the next 10 years, win 7-8 league titles, 2-3 champions league, maybe lead portugal to european or world cup glory, i am sure he will go down as being on of the greats. Same goes for messi.

i would like to add i definitely don't consider Pele and Maradona to be the 2 greatest players ever lived. i think that judgement is wrong. They are one of the greatest ever players along side a few others. I rate players like Cruyff, Puskas, Beckenbauer, Eusebio, Platini and Zidane all alongside Pele and Maradona.

I think if Pele played in this generation and played in europe it would be a totally different story. I am sure if Ronaldo (fat) played in Brazil his whole career he would be able to achieve something similar to what Pele have achieved.

As for Maradona his skills were amazing but i think his world cup performances won him all the fans, he club career was good but he didn't win many titles for his teams.
