My thoughts
Hey guys.
Im new to these forums so hello!!!
let me begin by saying that i have played FIFA my whole life!
And I love the title.
However that was all tested when FIFA 07 for the 360 was released.
I loved fifa 07 on the xbox/PS2 because it was such a smooth game that would allow for both a passing and free running approach to the game.
its next gen counterpart however was slow, Bulky, and extremely unrealistic.
I tried PES fell in love with it and turned my back on FIFA07
FIFA 08 was a step in the right direction as the game played a bit smoother and seemed to have a focus on passing and positioning.
But i still felt as though my players didn’t run smoothly.
It still felt awkward chunky and slow.
Football is NOT a slow game, The greatest teams in the world are the ones that can hold posession and then play 4-5 passes in as many seconds.
anyway, let me get to the point.
UEFA 2008 is without a doubt the best EA football title on current gen systems.
It reminds me of 07 on the ps2.
i love he fact that you have to put power into even the simplest of passes, Iv played easily over 30-40 games now and have found that balance in power is great.
I also love the crosses.
Running a player down the wing then putting in an early cross is incredibly rewarding when done properly.
Through balls are much the same, being able to control the power and to a certain amount the placement is great.
Im pushing through balls that are landing directly at my players foot whilst on the run.
The shooting is also quite solid, one issue that plagued 08 was that the keeps are easily beaten on there near side.
This doesn’t seem to be an issue in EURO.
The player fluidity is also great! i love that players like Henry can freely and cut angles at a sharper pace, where as defenders have more solid movement but greater strength when running shoulder to shoulder.
As for the wet patches, I love them.
It adds so much more to the game and helps break up the standard rythm of a game.
during one of my matches i pushed a ball through the centre of the field and instead of the ball travelling through to my attacker the ball slowed right down and was intercepted by the opposition.
I didn’t mind though because the same thing happened in return later in the match.
It makes you think about your plays!
And who doesn’t love the length of a slide tackle through water.
Sliding is my favourite aspect of playing a real football game in the wet.
there are a few things i haven’t touched but i could honestly go on all day.
The audience needs some work, and the managers are a bit of a pain, switching players could be a bit more responsive and Im also not a fan of the corners in the game.
Overall though this game has renewed my love in the FIFA/EA football franchise.
The pacing is perfect, i honestly hope that it remains this way.
As i mentioned before, Football is a fluid game.
I really enjoy the game and cant wait to get my hands on a full version.
i know this is a bold statement, But this game has the potential to be the best football title ever created and furthermore has the potential to nock KONAMI off as the leader in football games.
