Career Rewards - A Brief Guide
This guide contains a brief overview of the Career rewards in The Sims 2 and it's expansions, and how to use them. It is not intended to be exhaustive and additional information may be found by searching or asking in the forum.
General Information
Each career track grants your sim a special reward object once they reach a certain level within that career. Some of these rewards (those that ship with the basic The Sims 2 game)offer your sims the ability to build their skills at much faster rates than the normal build mode objects do. Other career rewards may offer your sims extra functions such as raising the dead or printing their own money for example.
Some career rewards also offer an additional benefit. They can be used to teach sims less skilled in that objects skill area. Sims being taught with the reward object will learn that skill at a very high rate. If they have a personality trait which leads then to quick learning in a particular skill, then the rate of skill building is increased still further.
Not all the reward objects may offer the ability to learn or teach skills as some just offer extra functionality. Of those that do offer skill building, they usually have several interactions in common:
- Offer Lessons To: More experienced sims can offer lessons to any sim with lower skills in that skill area who are currently on the lot.
- Ask Sim For Lessons: Less experienced sims can ask another sim who has more skills in that skill area, for lessons.
Career rewards have no equivalent monetary value so you won't receive anything back if you delete them in buy or build mode. Not only that, your sim will have to earn them again by re-treading that career ladder to achieve it again. The same is true if you move your sims to another lot, they will lose all career rewards they have earnt (unless you have Nightlife, a later expansion or a Stuff Pack when you could place them in your sims' inventory before moving them).
Note On The Thinking Cap
The thinking cap is an aspiration reward object that accelerates general skill building (for more details see
The Thinking Cap). The thinking cap can be combined with your career reward objects when skill building to further increase the rate of learning. You can increase it even further if both parties in a teach interaction are wearing the cap. Since all the various rate increases are accumulative, you can end up with sims with personalities which accelerate the learning of a particular skill, wearing a thinking cap whilst being taught on a career reward object by someone with full skill points in that skill area who is also wearing a thinking cap; learning at an incredibly dizzying speed.
