Something very odd just happened in my game, I had Santa arrive one day - cookies made, house decorated and Santa left them a present. The next day no cookies house, still decorated (I like the tree so left it all as it was) got to 10pm, jingle bells sound, and santa appears  checked all round the house there are no cookies anywhere. It's not the tree i've had that in my house over a few days and Santa hasn't arrived. I wonder if there's something else that prompts his arrival as you say.
