UEFA Champions League

Torquay leap to first in group after matchday 2

Torquay Grant 45', Piota 71' 2-0 SK Rapid Wein

After shaking the nerves in there first game, Torquay came into to the second game with a more relaxed attitude against an evenly matched side in SK Rapid Wein. Unlike the 1st half in there opening match Torquay came out in an attacking frame of mind and it showed in there gameplay. But still the first goal didn't come until injury time in the first half, when Joel Grant drilled the ball into the bottom left hand corner. This sent the home fans into a frenzy as there local heroes held a 1-0 lead. Even with this lead the manager was happy and expected the lead to improved in the second half to prove they can score goals from the chances created. The first twenty five minutes of the second was a dead patch in the game, until Joel Grant was fouled on the edge of the area. The free-kick unfortunately hit the wall, but Jrfs Piota was there in a flash to retrieve the ball. His first attempt hit the post, then finally he easily slotted the rebound into the net. The homeside had no trouble grinding out the next 20 minutes to complete a solid effort and put them clear 1st in their group. They next meet Everton at home in the Premier League.
