Ok this is my first post in here and i think Rev_Dev pretty much nailed some really good points. Here are my thoughts.
( I have ME on Xbox 360 )

- Gameplay / 1st Person : I love how the game plays and runs. It is totally unique and for me it truely is the ultimate evolution of the original prince of persia. Giving the game 3rd person would detach from the whole concept and design and the game would become lost and feel a lot more like Assassins Creed. The main reason i love Mirrors edge so much is because it feels and handles like nothing ive ever played. On a big screen you really get the feel of and adrenaline rush of parkour. This would be totally lost in 3rd person.

- Control mechanisms : Right now i hold a 88 in the world on Flight timetrial on the 360 and STILL complain that i find the controls very clunky. At times i can not perform a certain move and will get angry with the simplicity of the move and the fact its just not firing for whatever reason. Most of the time this is probably my timing or perception but i just feel the jumping and execution of wall running / grabs was a little more predictable and slick. I find wall running and climbing the most frustraiting. Again this may be down to me rather than the game, anyone agree / disagree ?

Sandbox / Freeroam : No , No and thrice No. You would lose the whole game if this was done. Mirrors Edge is about getting from A-B as fast as possible rather than exploring. You would gain an amalgamation of Assassins Creed and GTA if you made Mirrors Edge Free roam. The time trial / aspect of A-B would be lost in free roam.

Multiplayer : This is what will make or break Mirrors Edge for me. Important things to consider here would be.
- Character customisation for online play, the gender and look + try to keep it cyber punk theme to stop people creating silly runners eg: The Hulk, Batman etc etc etc etc
- Time trial vs a friend, run vs each other and obviously allow sprites to hit each other
- Chase mode , I love the idea of cops and robbers put up on the first page and the idea of running against each other. Interaction with other people and a competative feel would be a great addition. This idea has probably got me more excited.
As listed ( just adding my support really )
-Capture the Runner
-Capture the Bag
-Slalom / Flag collection
-Shuttle run / Flag collection
- Level design and upload to challenge others. Could be easily done and im sure some policy regarding submission and publishing could be sorted (i presume its worked with Little Big Planet ? ) out to stop a deluge of bad / glitched / easy maps could be devised. ( As mentioned earier The level creator is your Sandbox / Freeroam guys )

Time Trials : I am infuriated by the amount of bunny rabbits in the game who seem to have missed the point. If you look at a lot of the top times they jump / coil instead of running. As a player I refuse to do this and sometimes my times do suffer ( although i always love thrashing a bunny ghost with a pure run / better route )
The way to fix this without moderation is to add maybe a stamina bar regarding physical exertion. This would perhaps lose some of the action or "flow" perhaps a mechanic which makes the character either stumble / tire or freeze out the ability to do 3 jumps in a row, however again this could well effect legitimate flow / parkour runs. I know on a few of my runs i legitimatly jump / land over obsticles without hardly touching the ground.
A solution to this problem could well result in penalising the actual flow of the game.
Maybe the best thing to do would be to penalise speed on a jump rather than adding / keeping a constant.

More moves: There are 4 buttons not used on Mirrors Edge which could be used to add more Parkour movements to the game. Remove the slow down funtion and allocate the Runner Vision / Route finder to either the conventional joy pad or the select key ( i recognise the usefullness of this function in story mode or when learning a course ).
By adding moves i do not mean "free running " ie: the acrobatics or the stunts. Nice additions ( google them ) could well be:
Crane Steps, Kongs, Hand Plants, Precision when tapped on landing, perhaps even a Dive to grab function where you commit 100% to grabbing a ledge or falling head first on a miss :-P

Freerunning / Parkour : Atm Mirrors Edge is a Parkour game and should stay the same. As nice as a stunt off or Freerun acrobatic competion sounds nice this kinda thing should be left to your BMX / Skate games. I think moving Mirrors Edge in this direction would lose what we have and make it to complex !

Single Player Story mode : Make it more fluid and the ability to re-cap story modes. When picking the story mode up after time trialing for weeks i actually re-started story mode because id forgotten the whole plot ! Perhaps use the perspective of 2 players so you run a level as Faith and then maybe the story of Celeste so run as her level 3.

The future of computer games is the multiplayer option, i now find myself playing exclusively multiplayer over single player. Eg: I play Cod WaW and only played the solo campagin once... that was the day it came out in 4 player co-op mode !
I really feel Mirrors Edge 2 would be hugely popular if it was given multiple multiplayer options.
