Internazionale - The Squad - Goalkeepers

Name: Francesco Toldo
Position: Goalkeeper
Date Of Birth: December 2, 1971
Place Of Birth: Padua, Italy
Age: 37
Squad Number: 1
Previous Clubs: Milan, Fiorentina
Since joining Internazionale in 2001, Francesco Toldo was the club’s number 1 goalkeeper until 2005, when Julio Cesar made his breakthrough into the first team. At 37 years of age, Toldo is one of the most experienced goalkeepers in World football, and has made a total of 147 appearances for Inter. His only goal for the club came against rivals Juventus in 2002, when Toldo ran up for a corner and scored a last minute equaliser for Internazionale. For the Italy national team, Toldo has featured 28 times, his most recent appearance was in 2004. This season, the veteran Italian will look for more first team apperances, and possibly regain his status as Inter’s number 1 goalkeeper.

Name: Júlio César
Position: Goalkeeper
Date Of Birth: September 3, 1979
Place Of Birth: Duque de Caxias, Brazil
Age: 29
Squad Number: 12
Previous Clubs: Flamengo
Julio Cesar is the number 1 goalkeeper of both Inter Milan and the Brazil National team. The 29 year old was signed from Flamengo in the summer of 2005 and immediately replaced Francesco Toldo as the club’s first choice shot stopper. Julio Cesar has now made 132 apperances for Inter and is known for his excellent reflexes and made a number of excellent saves during the 2007/08 season, which ensured Inter’s Serie A title. The Brazilian is expected to continued as first choice goalkeeper throughout the next few seasons, but will have to be performing on a regular basis if he is to keep Toldo behind him in the pecking order.

Name: Paolo Orlandoni
Position: Goalkeeper
Date Of Birth: August 12, 1972
Place Of Birth: Bolzano, Italy
Age: 36
Squad Number: 22
Previous Clubs: Reggina, Lazio, Piacenza
Paolo Orlandoni is currently the third choice goalkeeper at Internazionale. His experience could prove useful, however, as the veteran Italian has played for a total of 12 clubs throughout his career. After playing his youth career at Inter, Orlandoni has since played in the lower divisions of Italian football and is not likely to get much playing time this season. It’s possible that the 36 year old could be sold to make more funds available, but for now, his future remains at Inter.
